Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

x 2 check your local thread, you're bound to find someone who has some!

I got home around 7:30, what a crazy long day... so the last thing I needed was a broken pipe in the mud room. steaming hot water pouring in to the closet and no heat in the rest of the house. razzastanafrazz...

and no chicks yet. just day 22... so I am still eager and Gossy is sitting firm. she would have rejected them if they weren't viable. (probably anyway)

but I did have one nice treat waiting for me. I bought myself a present for working so hard. and I LOVE it!

Scramble55, if you get desperate and feel like going for a drive, I suggest going to Spokane (shudder). I know! I receive promotional emails from The Country Store and I got one last week that said that the Central Spokane Valley store will get chicks 2-17 (tomorrow). I would for sure call to confirm that! For some reason that store gets them earlier than us and the closer Spokane Valley store. Here is the contact info if you want to check, and ask about breeds.

Spokane Valley, WA 99212 Store: (509) 534-1412

I think I must be trying real hard to earn my Eggy Enabler nomination... :)

So. this morning I went out to check for eggs and I found 2 thin shelled eggs under the roost, frozen solid and broken. I think the same bird laid both of them for 2 reasons. 1 - laying from the roost is an extremely rare event, it hasn't happened since June. The odds of two birds laying from the roost all the sudden are pretty low imo. Second, both eggs were brown, although they didn't have a full spray tan - and I had 2 brown eggs in the box. Since I have 3 brown layers, 2 eggs in the box means the 2 thin shelled roost eggs probably came from brown egg layer #3. Weird. When I collected I had shadow on the nest.

It's so cold. Going to be like 30 below either tonight or tomorrow night. *sigh*

It's probably just a one time thing, unless it happens again I wouldn't be concerned. It really could of been anything from she was stressed because another hen nicked her spot on the perch to she just let it go too early.
Two eggs is a little stranger but I still wouldn't be too worried.

Oh and I thought I would let you guys know as it made me laugh, a U.K. shop Marks and Spencer's has started stocking a special brand of egg. The brand promises that every egg will be a double yolker, every time I see them stock they sell out really quickly. On the back of the box it says something along the lines of whenever we get new layers we tend to get these eggs, every one has been checked to make sure they are double yolkers!
