what to do ?

What kind of worms, regular garden worms are fine, chickens would naturally forage for all sorts of grubs. As for meal worms, Moses are breed for chickens anyway so store bought would be fine, a don't know a huge amount about them though. I would be worried unless you chicken stops laying for a prolonged amount of time, the chances are she is taking a break.
Many things can stop hens from laying ranging from molting to stress.

:)

Hi there.

There are a lot of reasons a chicken will stop laying eggs, but I don't think eating a worm would be the cause. What people are probably talking about is when the chickens themselves have worms, it can rob them of energy and they will stop laying. They can even die if the infestation is bad enough.

Chickens are surprisingly sensitive to changes, and pretty much any interruption to their regular program can interrupt laying.

We need a little more information. How old are your chickens? What do you feed them regularly? Do they have a calcium source? Do they roam around or are they penned? What type of weather are they in? Are they broody?

You really can't take a break from this group because good luck catching up! I love reading this thread, and didn't want to miss a single post, so I had to wait to post anything until I finally caught up!

@mortie - How was Alton Brown? Did you just have a meet and greet or did you go to his live show too? DH and I took our 9 yr old to see the show and I'm not sure who enjoyed it more. It was a blast! He was in Savannah about 2 weeks ago.

To everyone waiting on their chickens to lay eggs, don't give up hope. Our Polish was almost a year old before she started laying eggs! Fortunately, her flock mates were providing, so we didn't mind having one "freeloader". There was no mistaking it when she laid her first because she was LOUD. And has been strutting around the run like she owns it ever since.

It's been a long winter with limited eggs, but happily they are picking up. Our speckled sussex is finishing a molt, so maybe a perfect 10-egg day is coming soon.

It might be the lack of sunlight in the winter. My girls took a serious break during the shorter days of the year, and are just starting to lay well again. I feed my girls bugs and worms of all kinds, and have seen no ill effects. There is even a thread about the weirdest things chickens have eaten. They really are scavengers!
