Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

What kind of spiders do you have around there?

Sounds like she might be getting sick again.

Lotsa kinds of spiders. :-D
My mother likes to be dramatic. In a bad way.
Every time I say something about duckling acting funny, she asks me, "did she hit her head? She might have brain damage. You better tell her parents!"
It's a thing with my mother. Very annoying.
Spider bite was her second guess.

For your sake, hope your mom never watches Mystery Diagnosis. All sorts of dire life threatening horrors out there!
Are you still planning a trip around hatching time?

After a very long morning, it has been determined that Duckling has been bitten by a vampire bat. It has since been located and sent to a lab for testing. The bat, not the baby.
Okay, I'm kidding. Despite her odd behavior, I am not concerned. Why my mother didn't jump to "ear infection" is beyond me. I had ear infection after ear infection throughout... Oh wait! I still do! I don't always feel them either. I am going with that being the first diagnosis.

Yes, I am still hoping to go away. Not sure how that will work, but I have a sister that will be driving through late New Years eve, If she is lucky, she will get here by nine, and we will get to Ohio a little after midnight on January first. As crappy as that is, there is no alcohol allowed around my family (we all drink, but not around the kids or my mother!

). I will still get to do the gift exchange, and the ducklings should be okay. The big problem is that the first bird egg (they never specified bird) hatched on 1/1/16 wins a prize. I may have to look for someone to spend the night here!
I said I was hatching an alligator. That is funnier than you think! I happen to have a book about a duck with three eggs. One hatches an alligator. I forgot about the book until last evening. Duckling and I were reading every one of her books. It was great!
I was told more than once that a duck can lay several eggs in a day. That was confusing. It happened though! I have two eggs today. No double yolk (that I know about) one double egg, and today this. Ducks are not like chickens. They miss a day, they really make up for it!

ear infection was my first guess... but it's not likely to go away on its own. hope she feels better!

Zira feels better! she's still a bit pale, but a big protein Pie for everyone for breakfast tomorrow and vitamins in the water will keep it going up... she'll keep getting her boosts, but she is back with the flock! she took her customary spot on the roost as well, without any aid from me. I brought her out for the evening feeding... I could have waited for roosting time, but I wanted her to see the Dome's new feeding system, and have me for defenses if needed and I only had to peck the backs of 3 hens (with my finger), once each. they let her be the flock member she is, she ate, she drank, she mingled... she preened with her sisters and then took her spot.

Despite my fear of not being able to do it (especially alone!) I took the crib apart, and got it back together upstairs. I lost two little barrel doohickeys, but managed to find them, and the crib is all ready for Duckling tonight.
