Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

35 for mortie is probably really hot!!

Snowing here...

Lots of eggs!!! I don't count anymore...chickens or eggs!! Lol! Ignorance is bliss and 30 something is vague enough to sound better than something probably closer to 40 (and this doesn't count the 20 in the bathroom..those tho are being raised to sell).

Congrats on your first egg kdogg!!

It was pouring rain today, and the girls were not happy! I laid downs some sod the other day, and they absolutely love it! About 50 degrees here, but the chickens preferred it when it was 70! :)

we stayed in the upper 20's today, but it was bright out, very cloudy but they were lit up and quite blinding. lots of wild birds and squirrels out in the yard but they would vanish the instant I stepped outside for whatever... chores or to try to get photos, and I was quiet and totally wearing all camo. oh well. the flock wants out bad and I can't do it. the coyote evidence is killing me. I need to fence in the backyard and that is crazy expensive. or I need to build extensions to their current enclosures. but I've been making it up to them with major quality food all Winter.
Congrats on the new eggs, I have a few new layers myself!

well... I did have some photos to share, but for some reason, it won't let me. just spinning away on the wait for loading.... they're over on FB...

Cheeka, the flock looks beautiful as usual! Could you make a fenced in extension with t-stakes and maybe second hand wire fencing? Maybe something cheap-ish on craigslist?

Congrats on a double first egg day!!

Mortie!!!!!!!! Glad to see you back on. How are your fishies?

Hi CLindz and chickenraiser! We had temps in the upper 70s last week. Weeds grew at least an inch a day! Now it is raining again. 3 more days, and then we will get a chance to dry out.

MC, for what it's worth, I agree with cheeka. Being terrorized daily is no way to live, and life is too short as it is. Hoping that things work out for you.

Welp, 2 more eggs today. Looks like the same 2 are laying. Hope the other 6 pick up production soon! In other news, I'm seeing We The Kings on Friday! :D also it snowed last night. It's melting fast though

As you know, I am collecting eggs around 6:30 in the morning. The chicks will be six weeks in a few days. Since they are already out in the coop, nature has feathered them out faster. However, with this cold front coming in I wanted to wait a few more days until I removed the divider ( which has been acting as more of a wind block than an adult block) and turned off the heat lamp.
I was standing in the duck pen, trying to figure out why they were being so odd this morning. I looked through the wire, and didn't see a single chick! They were not making any noise, though that is always a good thing. LOL, especially since all those little cockerels crowing would be a bad thing!
Anyway, I went in to investigate. No predator is going to get 18 good-sized chicks, and not clear out the whole entire coop!
They weren't on the roost with the adults, they were not in the chickens' nest boxes. I gave up looking, and went back to get the duck egg while I pondered on the situation. I stuck my hand into the duck nest box, but could not find an egg anywhere! I moved my hand to the left, I moved my hand to the right, I lifted up and even held one. I could not find a duck egg underneath all those chicks!
