Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Pullets can be very silly when they start laying eggs!
She was at it again today. Put her back in the coop, and she came over the fence again. Laid her egg in a yard card that is turned on end next to the house. Next time I catch her out, I will LOCK her in the coop. Should have thought if it earlier.

Hopefully she will get the hang of it soon!

W4W she sounds utterly delightful!

Sweet Pea was put down this morning, poor baby. I think I will place an ad on Craigslist for the pair. I am so unhappy with them, mostly because of my allergy, they're friendly for the most part...I'm not attached, and don't love them.
I'll wait til spring and get Silkie chicks.
I could get them sooner, but I have an opportunity to go to Italy with my parents, and it would be best to wait.

Wrangler is doing so amazing at school. Report cards come out in 2 weeks, but I already know she's earned straight A's - the communication from the school is phenomenal, and all the work she brings home is usually already completed - during reading aloud time, the children are allowed to draw...so...she's been doing her "homefun" then - as a result, she has earned a key pendant to wear around her neck - it's part of the 8 keys of excellence program (google it, corporations use it, so it's interesting to see it applied to elementary students) She earned it for Taking Ownership, and using This Is It moments productively. She's the only new kid in her class, and so far, the only one to earn a key. I'm so proud of her....

Finally a classmate who is almost as tall as she is! She's the 3rd tallest in class, the top 2 are boys...lol, but it's nice the girls are catching up, she towered over everyone in 1st grade

Haha. Yes, utterly... but I can think of a few more adjectives that suit better than delightful. :hmm She only jumped over the shed twice last week, and will lay in the nest box now, so improvement.

I loved my ducks when I was a kid, but they are not as social as chickens. I was mama to an orphan duckling, and he imprinted on me. When he got older we got him a girlfriend and he forgot all about his mama. Sorry about Sweet Pea and the others. Will you turn the duck pond into a dirt bath?

Congratulations on Wrangler's achievements. I credit the influence of her grandmas for sending her in the right direction. Hope you get to go to Italy... so much history there. How exciting!

Newsflash! Crazy Ginger the Wellie is out! and eating my kale starts!!! :barnie Got to go.

Im back.... how has everyone been?? Cheeka, you have been busy, busy, busy!
Lots has been going on. BluBeard hatch some eggs and the chicks went to a friend. Then Rumples went broody again, so I got eggs from Firedragon.
When I got home from vacation the eggs had hatched. Three duds were kicked out of the nest.
I picked up one egg and it was slightly open and cold. Poor chick. Rumples kicked her out too soon. I tapped the cold chick head and it moved!! I took a chance and slowly picked the shell apart. Out popped a cold but alive chick ! I placed it under Rumples and the little Frizzle chick survived.
So, I am the proud G’ma of a hopefully Frizzle pulley. I’ll post a pick tomorrow.
The other 3 pullets went to my friend also and we culled the males. ☹️
Hunting for deer and elk begins on the 10th but I have to work. No worries though. I have cow elk days off. Woohoo!
