Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

One week down! Kid makes Monday's look easy. :love

Poor thing, he is... He has his own space in the fenced in garden and sleeps in the baby barn. He is not photogenic. He's due to have a bath, but even when clean, his feathers are ratty because he will not preen. I do my best, but, he's lacking oils. It's been a full 6 weeks and he is no better as well. I have faced the fact that this is not fair. He eats, drinks and has a merry quack and personality, but winter is coming... Ugh. I have to find someone who will put him down.
On a brighter note...

Told her if she gets twins before her birthday, they would have to go in a knapsack...that she could wear...for 6 weeks. Then they could be "born" on her birthday. :lau
She wants the pair to her lower left, in green. She wasn't much into baby dolls before. If this only lasts a year, I want her to get the most out of it.

Twins are good! They can keep each other company when she's at school. You caught her expression perfectly... happy, excited, and hopeful.

Sorry about Sweet Pea. 6 weeks is along time to not see improvement.

I have a crazy pullet, a Welsummer. She has finally started to lay, but what a production to produce that tiny little pullet egg! First she screams for hours to let the whole neighborhood know she is expecting. While screaming, she paces back and forth in the coop, going from box to box, screaming. She paces back and forth behind the back of the shed, jumping up on a low shelf thingy along the back and clunking around some glass bottles we have stored there. Did I mention she is screaming all the while? After a bit (4 hours on a good day), the screaming intensifies, if that's possible, and when I go out to check, the noise seems to be coming from overhead, and... did you guess? Yes, she is 15 ft up on top of the shed. One day she was up in the buckeye tree in front of the shed. Usually I just catch her or lure her back into the chicken yard with some treats, but today I stuck her in the ground cage, away from everyone, with a piece of kale. I thought she would scream in protest, but she was totally quiet for the few hours I left her in there. (Thank heavens!) When I got her out to put her back, I found one shredded kale leaf and a tiny brown egg. Maybe she just wants privacy? It's an awful lot to take for one puny egg.

Pullets can be very silly when they start laying eggs!
