Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Im back.... how has everyone been?? Cheeka, you have been busy, busy, busy!
Lots has been going on. BluBeard hatch some eggs and the chicks went to a friend. Then Rumples went broody again, so I got eggs from Firedragon.
When I got home from vacation the eggs had hatched. Three duds were kicked out of the nest.
I picked up one egg and it was slightly open and cold. Poor chick. Rumples kicked her out too soon. I tapped the cold chick head and it moved!! I took a chance and slowly picked the shell apart. Out popped a cold but alive chick ! I placed it under Rumples and the little Frizzle chick survived.
So, I am the proud G’ma of a hopefully Frizzle pulley. I’ll post a pick tomorrow.
The other 3 pullets went to my friend also and we culled the males. ☹️
Hunting for deer and elk begins on the 10th but I have to work. No worries though. I have cow elk days off. Woohoo!
Welcome Back!

You sound busy busy too! Happy to hear that Rumples is still hatching babies. Is she able to walk? Glad you saved that chick. I have heard people say that a chick isn't dead until it's warm and dead. Cold will put them in a slow metabolic state, and they can survive without damage if warmed up in time. And you are moving??? Where? When? Why?

Hey W4W...
Rumpy cannot walk, but she does stumble around. She managed to integrate into the flock and she does well. She seems to enjoy being in the pen with the others, but come bedtime, she sneaks back to her “condo” with Frizzle by her side.
Frizzle has been checking out the coop during the day, so I’m not sure if she will leave Rumpy and join the flock in the coop. Bittersweet...
We will be moving about 13 miles away to a smaller house that my DH owns. He just paid it off. His shop is there and my house is too big for us old farts. Going up and down stairs is getting more difficult for both of us.
A year later.... I shall retire. Yay!
The flock will join us.

:frow The move sounds like a good idea. House with stairs makes me a little uncomfortable living in earthquake country. When I had my first son, we lived just south of San Francisco along the coast. The 2 story house was on the edge of a ridge with the backyard neighbor about 300 ft below... and the San Andreas fault about 100 feet away. I was fine until the baby came, then all I could think about was how I would get him out of that house in an emergency. All I could think about was moving back home, north of Golden Gate, before we slipped down that hill into the ocean. We moved before he turned 2.

Not my neighborhood, but this is very similar to how our house was situated. The slope below us was covered with brush and ice plant, like the houses on the right, but we had neighbors below. There was a beautiful view of the ocean, the 3 days out of the year you could actually see it! We were in the fog zone and also in the flight path of planes taking off from San Francisco airport. They went right over the house really low... you could wave at the pilot!

The '97 El nino rains were very scary. We had a small slide at the back of the house which only left about 8 ft from the corner of the house to the drop off. We hired a neighborhood teen to help shore it up with rocks. Seemed to work because the house is still there.

People down near the beach were not so lucky. To this day, the apartments further back in the pic are condemned and still teetering on the edge. Houses in the foreground are gone, as is a large beach side parking lot and RV park. Washed away. California is shrinking.
