Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

this is interesting. when I went out this morning to feed the big gang and collect eggs, I had Isis' egg, probably from last night. it was cracked. I set it on the counter so I could cook it up for either Ruby or Peach... maybe add another and give them both some... I just went into the kitchen, 2 hours later, and I cannot find a crack, a seam, a scar, a soft spot... nothing... on this egg. it is "perfect". how is this possible??? I'm still going to feed it to the animals, but, really??? no indication whatsoever that this was a cracked egg. and I did not mistake it for a different egg. I hard boiled a dozen eggs this morning, 7 of Peaches and 5 of Wilma's. they came out perfect, and bc I aged that dozen in the fridge for about a week, they peel easily. just ate 2... scrumptious! I want more, but will wait and make a nice salad with slices of egg and balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing. I never was a fan of vinegar, don't mind a little in salad dressing... and would do "vinegar shots" at the garlic festival every September. I enjoyed fruit vinegar, made from Strawberries and such... but when I was in Italy in 2011, I tried everything that was offered, so I tried balsamic vinegar and olive oil with these little gluten free bread nuggets (like tiny bread sticks, really crunchy) called Kamutini. had to break off one end, and stand them in the oil for a minute so it would soak up, they're not like soft bread that just sops it up, then swirl in the vinegar. I was hooked! I haven't had any other dressing since. so that's my plan for lunch. a can of tuna, eggs, balsamic vinegar, maybe a couple of pickles.

is 10 am too early for lunch? oh yes... I'm having brunch!

Cheeka, the Pointer (Chopper) and Sturgis both knew/know how to lock a car door. Chopper could roll down the window in the truck, but we didn't encourage it. She was hysterical with Harley, but some days we were afraid she would pick him up, and toss him out the window!

good grief guys!! Haha, I'll do them tomorrow

I saw that Showbarnmom had found it too!

Also, if you're ever bored again, you might like reading the adventures of ozexpat as he sets up chicken keeping in the Phillipines. Very interesting and a different way of life.

Yeeeeeee-Haw! I am OFF! ahhhhhh, another cup of coffee... CBS News Sunday Morning starts in 15 minutes, love this program, especially the arts...and community news. if it wasn't on 20/20 last week, it was on CBS NSM ~ a teenage girl in Colorado saved her family home from foreclosure by selling eggs, started door to door and built a business that makes $15,000 a year! has the certified Seal of free range, and a really beautiful flock. my folks live in Denver, if I remember correctly, she's in Denver area... so I told my Dad he needs to buy eggs from her. He wasn't sure if she would deliver as far as they live, so I told him to send my younger brother to pick them up... he laughed and told me those would be the most expensive eggs in the world as my knuckleheaded brother won't run errands for free! doesn't surprise me much. I still want him to buy her eggs.
That's great, Cheeka!!! You deserve it! And, that story is where I got my idea

that's so cool AL, it's a lot of work, with school and everything else that goes into having a "life", but it is so worth it! having a full life means making time for everything you want, which is sometimes laborious, but again... so worth it as you will be creating a business that can sustain you in so many ways. I really want to read all about it as you create your ideas, and see it as you post photos of your progress... and as I said, I will send you as many hatching eggs as you want, or chicks, if I get a broody myself... gratis. Enterprising youth deserve support!

Today's pictures show off some of the browns, that were being camera shy yesterday... I tried to take them out to photograph, but only one was cooperative, the rest would not hold still, and seeing as how I'm by myself, it was easier to just take lots of pictures of them in the crates and sift through them... my white chick can be seen with her nice silver lacing. she is not rumpless, she has a small bump, and she is getting tail feathers, they are about an inch long... the rest have 3-4 inch tails already...

this front chick is very camera shy, and the other is my former crooked neck girl

this is one that looks like my Lily, that I lost to a fox last summer...

fat and fluffy! red in front is beardless and really looks the most like my Lily, speckled head just like her...

love these 2... especially the one on the left

gorgeous...

this one, not the best pic, i have another coming up... she is right between Isis and Blu in coloring.

beardless ladies... lol

here's a better shot of my Blu and Isis look-a-like. come Spring, it will be fun to take pics of the three of them together

another camera shy silver with crooked neck... that's as crooked as she ever looks ~ no more falling over, she roosts well!

they are 8 weeks old. I know... it's easy to forget how quickly they grow, but looking back at old photos of the original gang, they were the same size at that age, and then it 'seemed to slow down for 4 weeks, then a spurt. then another 4 week slow down... they are amazing, I wish it would warm up to the 30's as then essentially, I could put them out in the portable run... it's too cold, single digits at night, teens to low 20's, if we're lucky during the day... I suppose they are feathered enough to survive, but they are not acclimatized at all. they can stay in, I have more crates...
