Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I looked at your pics. Pretty birds. Do the hens all have blue or green legs? That and the funny combs on a couple really make me think they are EEs. The first girl reminds me of a pencilled Rock, but has the wrong colored legs. The one close up behind the fence has no beard or muffs and you can't see her legs, but the comb looks like it is part pea comb, so I'm guessing EE. I subscribed to your thread and will post tomorrow so if you don't get many responses it will bump you up to the top. Now that the Stupor Bowl is over (poor 49ers... sniff) folks are bound to check in on BYC! What's that you say?..... Not everyone watches football?..... How can that be?.....

So far all I've gotten is medium white/off white eggs. I thought the one hen looked EE, but I am not sure I've gotten an egg from her yet. The one in the dirt is black with dark brown neck feathers and black comb. They are just weird!

this is interesting. when I went out this morning to feed the big gang and collect eggs, I had Isis' egg, probably from last night. it was cracked. I set it on the counter so I could cook it up for either Ruby or Peach... maybe add another and give them both some... I just went into the kitchen, 2 hours later, and I cannot find a crack, a seam, a scar, a soft spot... nothing... on this egg. it is "perfect". how is this possible??? I'm still going to feed it to the animals, but, really??? no indication whatsoever that this was a cracked egg. and I did not mistake it for a different egg. I hard boiled a dozen eggs this morning, 7 of Peaches and 5 of Wilma's. they came out perfect, and bc I aged that dozen in the fridge for about a week, they peel easily. just ate 2... scrumptious! I want more, but will wait and make a nice salad with slices of egg and balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing. I never was a fan of vinegar, don't mind a little in salad dressing... and would do "vinegar shots" at the garlic festival every September. I enjoyed fruit vinegar, made from Strawberries and such... but when I was in Italy in 2011, I tried everything that was offered, so I tried balsamic vinegar and olive oil with these little gluten free bread nuggets (like tiny bread sticks, really crunchy) called Kamutini. had to break off one end, and stand them in the oil for a minute so it would soak up, they're not like soft bread that just sops it up, then swirl in the vinegar. I was hooked! I haven't had any other dressing since. so that's my plan for lunch. a can of tuna, eggs, balsamic vinegar, maybe a couple of pickles.

is 10 am too early for lunch? oh yes... I'm having brunch!

Oooooh, a mysterious egg. I have seen them get cracks when hard boiling, and on some, after cooling off completely (dunking in ice water) the cracks seem to disappear. No sign that there ever was one. I just assumed that it fit back together so perfectly no trace could be seen or felt. So maybe yours shrank (shrunk? shrink-shrank-shrunk?) back to it's normal position when it thawed, and somehow the membrane keeps the shell tightly in place. Or maybe you were dreaming. Or maybe bigfoot stole the egg and replaced it with one it stole from a UFO that had crash landed in the woods because it didn't want to eat alien eggs. Or maybe the chickens felt guilty for cracking it and one sneaked into the kitchen to lay a new one on the counter and rolled the old one away. Have you looked under the couch?

I really like the selection of colors for your EEs. I particularly like the silvers and the blues-- I don't have those colors. The crooked neck chick still is a bit crooked (?), but as long as she can get along and do her chickeny thing, good enough!

Hubby's sis gave us some fig balsamic vinegar. Yummm. We recently finished the last of it, have to try to find some more.

Hope you enjoyed your much deserved day off!

nice alien/chicken theory. I think the chicken one is the most likely.

Or was it an alien chicken that did it!!!

If you can edit your posts to give the details of leg color and comb type that can't be seen in the pics, that may help id them. Not all EEs will lay blue or green eggs, sometimes that gene gets lost in the crosses, especially after a few generations. I'm sure there are other breeds with dark legs, just don't know what they are.

What is attached to that dino-sized foot in the second pic? Emu? It doesn't try to stomp the chickens? That's my food! Whomp!
