Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

hi everyone who's new that I should have quoted so I could be proper and all... lots of posts to catch up on...

SBMom, I would melt in Texas. seriously, once the temp hits 76*, I start getting nervous... once it hits 80* I need my ice vest. I have a really nice one, made for welders... so awesome to wrap up in ice cubes...

LMC, we hope to see hatch pics!! Peach has one more week to sit, she hasn't ejected any of the eggs from the nest... I'm hopeful!

OK, I could so help ya build a crazy bone sculpture/roost/decoration... I hope you do make something from the bones anyway...

W4W, don't forget me... the Barbarian Extroidenaire-ian!

today... phone rang at 6:30 am. the only other carrier in the office I happen to be doing the second route of the day in... called in sick. her route is large. 80 something miles. 400 boxes... can I help? the PM is in tears, I can hear it. I felt so bad, but it's impossible to get all 3 routes done... I told her I'd help. we'll manage...so I did my route, and headed right over... when I got there, the PM had found another carrier willing to come and take the small route, and she had the large route entirely sorted, pulled down for delivery, parcels in order... and loaded in a big cart. and she said "I'm coming with you"! she got a clerk from another office to come run her office, 10 minutes to load and off we went. we made a few mistakes, even had to use my GPS 2ce, but we finished in 4 hours and made the outgoing truck! I wonder what will happen tomorrow...
so, i didn't have time to put the chicks out this morning. it started to snow in the early afternoon and hasn't stopped, but it's pretty warm, just at 32-33... no wind. but it was getting too dark (for me) to move them when I got home. it has to be tomorrow morning. they've got to go back outside. there's no forecast for frigid cold... it's good for them, the run is so much larger and they can all be together...

Wow I have missed so much, and I will have to spend a few days catching up....soon. I just wanted to stop in and say hello and that ive thought of you guys over the few months. My girls are big now and I actually should be expecting eggs next month....ACK the wait begins :) I am not ready for it....and of all things they are living in my brand spanking new shed. Hubby never got time to finish their build but he gave up his brand new shed with the 6inch concrete floor for the girls. I never imagined we would all be this attached.

Hey Sally! nice to see you again! I love the picture! and the wait begins

I've seen a few sheds that I would love to just pick up and move to my house... your birds are lucky ducks chickens!

Hi Cheeka! I did not forget the Barbarian Extroidenaire-ian! I had actually put you down as president of the club, but erased it for fear of offending you in case you were grumpy from having to work too much (which I suspected because of the Monday holiday). I get grumpy easily these days. I'm grumpy right now because I did something extremely stupid yesterday

and messed up my back again

which woke me up at the ungodly hour of 4am

and here I still am, waiting for the megadose of ibupofen to kick in.

On to happier news, my girls seem to be recovering. Improving signs every day. The watery stools have gone and almost half of them are back to normal poop-wise. They are not drinking themselves out of water during the day now, have been eating a more normal portion of feed, and the few eggs we get have reasonably good shells. The dogs are really enjoying them! Normal chicken poops are a blessing I will appreciate from now on. Can't wait for warmer, drier weather so I can scrub the back wall of the coop. It has been splattered.

Just noticed even my happy news sounds pretty grumpy.

I'm cold and need to go back to bed. Don't work too hard!

Hi again! What a wonderful picture. You'll notice the pullets' combs get larger and turn really red and then you'll know eggs are on the way.

It is surprising how attached we are to the chickens too. Saw in your sig line that you lost a couple of chicks. So sad. What kind did you get? Any cute fluffy baby chick pictures you want to share?

It would help dispel the grumpiness.

W4W... I almost named myself President of the Barbarians too... but didn't want to bump either of your boys off the top spot... So glad to hear that the treatment is working it's magic... speaking of splatter, the back hardware cloth wall of the dome is gross in a few spots where their bums are close when they are roosting... can't wait to get in there with a scrub brush...

it was a normal double route day, no drama... no sickies... just tons of mail and all those newspapers ~ my hands were so blackened from the ink... I had to keep catching myself before I touched my face. but the day didn't end drama-free... my PM called me at the very end of the day to say that Ms So and So isn't feeling well again. do I know anyone who can do my route so I can do hers? nope. I don't. the one woman who does know my route is on vacation in Florida, hence my double route days this week. if I can't do her route, there's a guy who knows hers... but he has to do his own first, and can't do three... so... she's making a few calls... either way, I'm working a long day tomorrow. then I'm going to call in sick on Friday. the heck with this malarkey! (I won't, but I sure would like to!)

and unexpectedly, we are having below zero frigid temps overnight with 45-60 mph winds, so the chicks are coming back in as soon as I feed myself. I had 5 eggs yesterday, and 4 today. I'm having eggs for supper... fried, over mashed potatoes.

I have never thought of eggs over mashed potatoes. The more I think of it, the better it sounds. I am not into potatoes, but DH is. May suggest it to him.
11 eggs today. Chick Days start in this area on Monday. I will see how I do.
