Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Thanks for the input. I bought three saddles on eBay last night for like $9.00. I am not around during the day but have seen them do that to her so I know why the feathers are missing. Wish I could free range but they would all be dead within a week. Do plan to expand the hotel/resort a little when it warms up. They have plenty of room but I have hung around with you all toooo long. You hear me JCHNY2000 ? Turkeys in the den ?

Wow so bout 7-8 months old? I thought EEs would be. Longer than that

You can expect most pullets to start laying around 5 months. Little longer for heritage and show birds (they grow more slowly), a little less for hatchery and production birds. Depends on the time of the year too. If they are maturing closer into winter, the lack of sunlight can delay laying until spring.

Anyone have saddles on any of their birds to protect their feathers? I'm thinking cheeka? Wondering how well they work. My little BR........no not the devil....is going to have to wear one or I am going to have to separate her from the rest of my hens. Seems the HENS do that too and she is getting pretty bare on her back. She is the bottom of the pecking order so she gets pretty beat up.

I ordered mine 2 weeks ago (the D ring was tempting. I have been wanting to bring a hen into PetCo! Maybe next time). They still aren't here. I blame the mailman. I am never getting my mail on time. I don't believe that 2 trash bills come in the same week (or day!) after no bill for 4 months.

The snow wasn't too bad. It melted a lot today, just to begin snowing this evening again.
Perfect day in the big coop, and 3/4 in the small. DH collected eggs last night, and didn't check the small coop. Odd there weren't more.

there is only 1 egg, and it's out of reach. the Wee's have taken over. the Big's are not happy. oh well!

the Wee's have stationed themselves in both coops. they roost in the apple coop at night, and hang out in both coops during the day. I should probably get a few more nesting boxes for the interior of the dome.

oh yeah, the snow... it snowed here all day. huge flakes that stuck in the elevation, melted in the flats... so I have 3 more inches here at the house, some melted, as it did almost hit 40*. it's supposed to be 40* for the rest of the week, and almost 50* on Easter Sunday. Mylee arrives on Easter Sunday!

Glad to hear they work cheeka. She is pretty bare on her back. I'm think she will go broody when the weather warms up and get a break from the bullies. Of course I would never order just one because you know who .....

will have to have one too. The lady that sold them said that they are coming out with matching shoes? Do I need to get their ears pierced too? What in the hell.o have I got myself in to
