MC will get hit harder than me... it's staying south, we will have flurries, no significant accumulation. and I think by Wednesday, we will start to see temps nearing 40*. that would be so nice.

I'm so pooped and sore from today... it's bedtime for me... I'm ready for sleep.

Anyone have saddles on any of their birds to protect their feathers? I'm thinking cheeka? Wondering how well they work. My little BR........no not the devil....is going to have to wear one or I am going to have to separate her from the rest of my hens. Seems the HENS do that too and she is getting pretty bare on her back. She is the bottom of the pecking order so she gets pretty beat up.

I've seen pictures aprons and folks say they work well. It is probably only your top hen that is mounting her, asserting dominance. I have a hen that that does this, but seems to pick on only two others. It helps that they get out into the yard so the others can get away from her. She who has the biggest comb rules!

Yes, they are GREAT! When I got Mabel and Bunny, Mabel was bare backed and almost raw. I was really worried she would live, let alone regrow the feathers. Tried making my own but finally bought some from Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-pack-Hen-...784?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ccf6d1700
these were nice, very well made and I bought 2. Mabel healed up, I put bag balm on her back and put her in the porch. Left the apron on, just swapped it out every day until her wounds healed. she is now fully feathered and looks great!

Thanks for the input. I bought three saddles on eBay last night for like $9.00. I am not around during the day but have seen them do that to her so I know why the feathers are missing. Wish I could free range but they would all be dead within a week. Do plan to expand the hotel/resort a little when it warms up. They have plenty of room but I have hung around with you all toooo long. You hear me JCHNY2000 ? Turkeys in the den ?
