Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Thanks, JC! Yes, we have 6 mallards (2 drakes, 4 hens) That is the Midget, my youngest, Cameron, feeding them a little scratch before coop time. He loves it when they peck the feed off his boots, lol.

Thank you all for the good laugh today- I really needed one. My stupid back has betrayed me again, and I am hobbling around trying to get things ready before we leave on our trip early Mon (at the crack of doom).

RR, I have a Cam too! Popular name for this generation I guess. I only knew one person named Cameron while growing up, so thought I'd be a little original-- not!

SBMom, only from what I've heard (no incubators here!), Brinsea is as close to automatic as you can get. But of course it's also one of the more expensive ones.

So glad you are having a good time with Mylee, cheeka! Given family history around here, I will be rolling around in my wheelchair before any grandkids arrive, but it sure would be fun to be around a little girl.

Some of the baby chicks. They all run when I come near so I only got a couple photos. Mama pretty much has them on their own, she only rarely checks in on them. I have noticed though that if they are really by themselves, she'll come over from wherever she's been to sit with them.

She's laying again and roosting. They all can get up on the roosts, but I think they still huddle on the floor at night.

I've loved the WalMart photos, I just can't figure out a cute saying for any of mine to go with them!!

Reina, I have a couple SLW one week behind yours:

I got seven eggs two days ago, which would mean that the SLW is laying. But yesterday I only got 5. My white EE (on the left in the above photo) is the same age as the SLW, I'm really looking forward to her eggs. I hope they're blue! I've got Olive Eggers coming up, so I'll have green (ish). The EE on the right is our crowing cockeral, so far the bit SLW boy hasn't made a peep. The EE likes to crow at 4 AM, which is awesome because the sun doesn't come up until 5:30. He sounds like someone stepping on a set of bagpipes!
