Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Aloha everyone! We head home tomorrow (Wed) and will get into Oakland around 10pm so hopefully home by midnight. The trip has been fun, not especially relaxing, but fun. We have been mostly snorkeling for the last few days. Saw some really beautiful fishies and turtles and eels. It was also cool to watch my boys in action. We went in some pretty deep water, and if they saw something interesting, they zoomed on down to check it out. About 30 feet one time! I bobbed around on the surface playing mother hen; can't get one ear to clear, so about 10 feet down is as far as I can get.

I didn't bring my good camera, so the few pics we took are cell phone quality. If you search 'snorkeling Kona two step' it will give you a good idea of what it's like where we went.

Heat wave back at home so my saintly sister, who has been caring for our critters, has been working overtime to make sure no one roasts. My very broody Ameraucana seems to be going back into broody mode again. I may just have to get some eggs for her to hatch this time. (Or has the tropical sun just baked my brain?) Maybe just some chicks for her. Preferably something autosexing, like Cream Legbars. We'll see.

Cheeka, it must have been tough to say goodbye to Mylee more than once on this trip. Moving west doesn't sound like a bad idea, but you'd need to find a spot that doesn't get too hot for you.

SBMom, good luck with the breeding project!

LMC, have you searched around to see if they are hiding eggs anywhere? Could something be getting in and stealing eggs? Last year I found a secret nest out in the yard with 14 eggs in it. Now I automatically check around when the egg count seems unexpectedly low. Keep us posted on how the fermented feed works. I am curious to hear how it goes.

OK, how many cockerels did you end up with? How is Roger's little minion?

ShowbarnMom Good luck with the blog, I will check it out when I get a chance.

So We have another wedding this weekend to go to....long drive.

The girls are starting to lay again, which makes me sooo Happy. I plan to try and candle the eggs in the incubator today and see what is going on. I am so nervous about them because I feel like I can look at a million pictures but my eggs dont look like that. We shall see.

W4W sounds like you are ready for a vacation from your vacation. I hope you get in safely and enjoy a nice day or two of relaxing at home. It amazes me how so many vacations turn out to be so fun filled that your exhausted. I feel like thats all I get with the kids nowadays.

Have a very Happy fourth everyone.

Really spectacular SBMom! I have no medium brown eggs now... Violet is brooding and Rose thinks she's the rooster and has kind of stopped laying

my little Marans are almost 8 weeks old now... triple that and I might see a nice dark brown egg...

Wilma was the big attention seeker of the day, nothing unusual about that...

yes, she's trying to tell me to get on with her massage...

if only I could really show the extent of her "massages" I need someone who's good with a camera... she requires both of my hands. and she gets a fully body.

I haven't gone out for the last egg collection, so I have no daily count yet

I really don't know what I have. Nobody has crowed yet. Two have combs and one does not. Little Roger is the one without the comb. Need to post pictures so you all can help decide. OH.....and Little Roger won't go near Roger. Didn't take that chick long to figure out she is crazy.......not right

Stuff like this makes Roger think that wanting a pedicure is in the realm of possibilities

Broody coop is almost done. Might let them try it out by the weekend. The roof is on the new run. Need to cover the sides with hardware cloth and it will be done as well. Probably one more good day to complete everything the way I want it. This addition will almost double the size of my chicken resort......hotel....operation. Lots more options for separating birds now. Roger thinks its her private quarters. She requested a fan to be installed and a scratch dispenser. She reminds me constantly of the "egg" she hatched. (actually she sat on it for the last 10 days. Big broody did the rest) Pictures soon.

Can't believe I had to buy eggs!!! The girls just aren't laying. It took me a week to get 1/2 doz. Some of theenew girls are practising. I have been seeing them in the nest boxes. Hope they start soon. Bunch of free loaders they are. Lol
