Aloha everyone! We head home tomorrow (Wed) and will get into Oakland around 10pm so hopefully home by midnight. The trip has been fun, not especially relaxing, but fun. We have been mostly snorkeling for the last few days. Saw some really beautiful fishies and turtles and eels. It was also cool to watch my boys in action. We went in some pretty deep water, and if they saw something interesting, they zoomed on down to check it out. About 30 feet one time! I bobbed around on the surface playing mother hen; can't get one ear to clear, so about 10 feet down is as far as I can get.
I didn't bring my good camera, so the few pics we took are cell phone quality. If you search 'snorkeling Kona two step' it will give you a good idea of what it's like where we went.
Heat wave back at home so my saintly sister, who has been caring for our critters, has been working overtime to make sure no one roasts. My very broody Ameraucana seems to be going back into broody mode again. I may just have to get some eggs for her to hatch this time. (Or has the tropical sun just baked my brain?) Maybe just some chicks for her. Preferably something autosexing, like Cream Legbars. We'll see.
Cheeka, it must have been tough to say goodbye to Mylee more than once on this trip. Moving west doesn't sound like a bad idea, but you'd need to find a spot that doesn't get too hot for you.
SBMom, good luck with the breeding project!
LMC, have you searched around to see if they are hiding eggs anywhere? Could something be getting in and stealing eggs? Last year I found a secret nest out in the yard with 14 eggs in it. Now I automatically check around when the egg count seems unexpectedly low. Keep us posted on how the fermented feed works. I am curious to hear how it goes.
OK, how many cockerels did you end up with? How is Roger's little minion?
