Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

received this from the lady I helped by taking all of her banty roos... for their pen.

it was rainy and dreary, no free range... but I hooked them up with lots of goodies. I wanted to take pictures in the dome today, but the floor is absolutely so dry and soft and they were so actively kicking, I worried about the lens. I have no filter for the good camera, and broken camera needs the battery charged. I won't risk scratching the lens of good camera... I'll take pics tomorrow, it's really nice in there, especially since I hosed the back wall.

8 Eggs today, Peachy skipped again... but the new brown egg is so exciting! I spent quite a bit of time in the dome in the late afternoon. I am suspecting Veronica, the white EE as the new layer. she was munching out on oyster shell while her sisters sat on the roost...
remember Veronica? the one with a beard and wattles...

the plan is to go get the Cochins tomorrow. I will pen them separately, over near Peach and the Bachelors. the dome residents are all looking fine, even Tiger, whose eye is still not quite right, but it's still only one eye, it does look better... but weepy... no coughing, sneezing or gurgling from anyone.

PICTURES !!!!!! .......Sex them please. Notice my Little BO (crippled) who loves her new family. Perfect fit for her while she continues her progress

Here are my two special needs hens. Little BO (on the left) who became came lame and couldn't walk for a few weeks. She is making great progress and fits in perfect with the broody and chicks. Nobody to get rough with her. On the right you see RK Boody who has managed to grow most of her feathers back. Real happy for her. She is looking great and she turned out to be a great broody hen. Still has all 11 of her chicks.

Love all the beautiful pictures! #2son and I are 5 hrs away from home. We went to a chicken show this weekend, especially to see the Seramas. Very fun and we learned a lot. We'll head back north tomorrow.

Talked to Hubs, and he said that one of the other Serama girls laid and egg today. Only waiting on 2 more to start.

Found out that my uncle (my mom's brother) died a week ago today. Same cancer that got my mom. Guess I'd better go get my test soon. Hate going to the doctor. Come to think of it, so did they. Evidently, not a very healthy attitude to have.

Wow, OK. I see an awful lot of girls there, with the exception of that one obvious Del cockerel. Could you have been so lucky?

Not as sure with the BRs because they look the same, no one to compare to, but the combs are all pale and no wattles as yet, so looking girly. Also, BR pullets are darker than cockerels because they have a much thicker feather bar. Cockerels tend to look lighter gray compared to their sisters, but look at the barring to be sure. A cockerel's black bars are about the same width as the white. Pullets have much less white (a third - or something, it's all been measured and quantified, but I can't remember the exact amount). Of course they could all be cockerels, just developing more slowly than Mr. Manly Delaware.

Oh, and the black wash on the BR legs is supposedly more of a pullet trait also, so I'm thinking you are going to get a lot of eggs someday. We'll see what everyone else thinks.

RK Broody looks so good. Not like something you scraped off the highway now. She may need a new name. Let's see, Ravishingly Kool? Rarely Kvetches? K words are tough.

The little BO looks very content. She gets to be auntie to all those youngsters, and hopefully they will protect her when you put them all together some day.

I am with you on the Del's the one that is a cockerel is obvious and I am pretty sure the rest are pullets. I also agree with you on the BR's but have never had a BR cockerel so i'm not sure. They are all about the same when you look for combs and wattles. The color of the barring is very interesting and educational for me. I didn't know that. I will look for that when I check on them tomorrow. It is pretty neat watching the birds in the broody coop.RK Broody will get those chicks together and lead them outside to the run in the morning and the little BO will hobble out behind the last chick like she is one of the chicks. It is great to watch and I can't get over what a great arrangement it is for all of them in the broody coop. Everybody has exactly what they need including the Little BO who sleeps in one of the nest boxes on the floor of the broody coop. A perfect home for everybody living there.

I am agreeing with W4W... only one very obvious deleware cockerel! I hope the little BRs turn it like RK broody rather than her!

Glad to here it lindz and if they turn out like HER I will dust off the "MEAT BIRD LIST" and that lone name at the top will get some company. Why I don't know.
