I have bc marans! Give it about 3 weeks and you should be able to tell what you haveHi All, You have been very chatty these past few days! I love reading to catch up! Love the pictures, and the comments. Sorry for the troubles some of you are experiencing. So, I forgot that I ordered more chicks. In my defense, it was back in May that I ordered them. Now that I am finally at a point where I can put all of my chickens in the big coop at night, I have babies again! Yikes! Cute little buggers though! They are all Marans, but I am not sure what kind. Seems like I have 4 different ones. I think one is a Black Copper Marans, but I have no clue what the other three are. One of the black ones feathers are coming in striped. Is that a cuckoo Marans? Any one else have Marans? I am posting this on the Marans site too. I will keep you posted! Oh, and I bought all girls! Yay, no guessing later!Cheeka, do you have to soak the millet or can you give it dry??
Mine are roughly the same age and I haven't got any eggs either.
Did you give them PIE?So 28 - Weeks Old! I'm At A Loss... Even Spoke To A Local Farmer Who Said Heritage Breeds SometimesTake Longer, But 28 Weeks Is Really Behind.

Yep, that's a long wait, but I've heard worse. They can be sensitive to changes (scary new food, scary dog, changing weather conditions) and this can sometimes cause stress which will halt or delay laying. We had a really windy day last week (unusual for here) and I got zero eggs. They made up for it the next day, though.
Heritage breeds tend to mature more slowly, but the payoff is better health and a longer life, so more eggs in the long run. Do they have red faces yet? That can mean they're getting pretty close. Sudden growth in the comb and wattles and the reddening shows that hormones are a-flowing and eggs on their way.
I suppose there's no chance they're hiding the eggs in a secret nest or a critter is eating the eggs?
If food bribery doesn't work, try getting a bucket of fried chicken, and eat it in front of them while making direct eye contact. Maybe they'll get the hint.
