Chick adoption #2 is not going well at all! Clarabelle keeps pecking the new chicks and they are huddled in the corner. She drew blood on the smallest one's behind. Right now I have them in a dog crate inside the partitioned part of the coop. We had to do a little more rearranging, but I think we have it worked out.... Maybe we can let everyone settle in and get to know each other through the wire and then combine in a few days. I still have to figure out how to rig up a light down there since we don't have power....I was really hoping that this would have gone MUCH SMOOTHER!![]()
Cheeka, thank you for chatting with me this morning throughout the chaos! Clarabelle was being BRUTAL!
Luv: I am only seeing one MAYBE two that are even questionable.... I would guess that if you are getting eggs from at least one, then they would have more prominent combs if they were roos... just my opinion.
Bummer about Clarabelle. Wish I had some advice, but have never tried adding chicks to a brood. Watch out for that little one that was bleeding. The chicks may go after the wound as well.
Good luck!
