Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Sorry about the stormy weather out your way.  We've had cold mornings, but nice mild days.  No rain though.  It's been about 6 months now.  Dry, dry, dry.

11 hens eating every day.  4 half bald from molting. 1 egg.  Yep, that's it, just one egg.  Yesterday was much better.  We got 2.
OK...all this 4 eggs? :idunno
The Mylee pics are adorable.  No trick or treaters this year.  The neighborhood has grown up and the few kids who still go candy collecting head into town where the houses are closer together and it's easier pickins.  We didn't even carve pumpkins :( but we did watch The Great Pumpkin (again)!

I am sure the power outage played a role. Waiting for official word from the spokeswoman/troublemaker

Due to the absence of light from the house late in the day and early in the morning, that in turn reduces the visibility of our workers, to hunt for and find SCRATCH and other essential ingredients (pie), necessary in the production of eggs, a drop in egg numbers is to be expected. Please be patient while we get our systems regulated and adjusted after this unfortunate turn of events. We are looking forward to resuming full production as soon as good quality scratch and pie can be found in generous proportions

21 in the dome, all laying... and I get 4 Eggs.
5 in the broody pen, 1 is laying and 4 who should be by now... plus 1 who is too young to lay, and 1 unknown gender (Silkie) and I get zip.

we might get as much as 1 inch of snow tonight. all I did for the dome was tie down the one strip of vinyl that I keep untied for sunshiny weather. I need to get plastic up on the front wall and door, and work on wrapping tarps on the other pens, but it's been raining, so a little bit at a time, and I'll get it done. just came in for some nice hot coffee and a warm up... the broody pen is easiest, I have the vinyls strips with grommets that I used last year. I have one seriously huge tarp that covers almost the entire bachelor pen, but it's too dark. I will have to use translucent plastic on the front wall so they have more light.

back to work!

aww, the birds will be fine, they are all feathered in except for Betty. but she's getting there, and she's ranking high so she gets to roost next to super fluffy neighbors. the ground is so warm, it won't stay. I'm off tomorrow, most of my chicken chores are done, so I can really chill out with them - pun intended, cuz it will be chilly... it's my favorite time of the year. I know they enjoy it too...
