Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Wow Cheeka, winter is sure trying to get started out your way. Autumn is my favorite time of year, but it's been a bit wonky this year. It's been too hot during the day and very cold at night and in the morning. No rain, either. Today is good. A bit overcast, a bit breezy and in the mid 50s. Looove sweater weather.

In chicken news, I finally introduced Coffee and Donut (the older Serama pair) to the younger 4 pullets. No one is completely happy. Donut tries to court some of the younger girls who freak out and dash around which scares Coffee who starts dashing and pretty quickly, everyone is flapping all over the place. No blood or injuries though, so they'll work it out eventually. We usually get 3 mini eggs a day (out of a possible 5). I never got a perfect day with my big girls, so maybe the Serama girls will come through for me. I'll be waiting it out....

Wish me luck. One was almost completely out of the shell, but very cold. Hen abandoned the nest. So if it survived will put itunder hen tonight. The others aren't due till today, but she already had 5 hatch and left them. So want to give them a chance.

many hugs and prayers for your Mom and Dad, and you and the whole family for strength to get through all of this. most folks who volunteer to transport patients have a Servants Heart, and are gentle and kind, after all, it's their pleasure to do this. or they wouldn't. My Dad has had several stints, some last longer than others... but technology has certainly improved, I pray your Dad can go the easy route!

this is the best picture I have as yet of the Silkie. I probably should catch it and bring it in for pictures where I have more control over the lighting. it is so hard to get any detail outdoors. it's so reflective. I posted some pics in a Silkie sexing thread, got a couple responses for both sexes... the crest is pretty much still pin feathers. I'll try later today...
How old is she, i really think you have a pullet there.

I got 4 eggs today! All from the GC girls, so I know at least 4 of them are laying! That leaves 3 more of them to start laying, then the barnyard mix is about 14-15 weeks old now so she will probably start laying around Christmas or a little later since I am not sure exactly what she is.... The chicks are 8 weeks old today, so I am guessing they will start laying around March or so. When everyone finally gets around to laying I will have 17 layers. I plan on trying to hatch in the spring, especially if Clarabelle or any of the others decide to go broody for me!

I love the snow pictures! I hope that we actually get some snow this year that stays on the ground more than a day or two.... When I was little, we would get enough snow for school to be closed for a week or more, but it hasn't been like that in several years! I love winter, so I really miss it!

Good luck with your parents jchny! I'll keep you all in my prayers!

The Mylee pics are GREAT cheeka!

Good luck with the rest of the brood SBM!

I went a head and candled. Looks like there was development in most of them. But they all (but 1 Maran I can't tell) are still about 50% air sac. Probably not going to hatch right? I can see an eye spot on one cream egg. The rest I can't tell anything.
