Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm so excited for you! I can't wait for Spring - I'll have to break down and get an incubator if I don't get at least one LF broody - hoping any of the Cochins will oblige, they are so big and fluffy, guaranteed to cover at least 15 eggs... I have plans to put specific hens with specific roos and make some Olive Eggers and also really solidify my blue egg layers. Royce will see the most activity of the LF boys, but I'll play roulette with Archie and Sirus for fun, see what I get...

well... if you don't get any by Spring, I will send you hatching eggs if you would like... I have some beauties who lay stunning green eggs ... 3 roosters to choose from... all with appealing qualities...

Sorry about the bad weather for everyone! Congrats on the chicks!

I got 3 eggs today and they were all in a nest!!! One from a GC, one from an EE and a tiny one from Clarabelle! I am a little surprised that she is laying again already since she is still raising chicks AND molting!?! Oh well, I guess she was ready! She usually laid 5 out of 7 days before she went broody, but her eggs are pretty small. The new EE girls are in with everyone else now, and I moved the 3 new Marans chicks into the small coop so they have more room than the dog crate! It also helped to open up the big coop more too!
Hope everyone's weekend is a good one!

I may take you up on that! I seriously love hatching eggs. I like the chicks and all, but love having broodies on eggs. I dunno. I weird lol.

21 in the dome, all laying... and I get 4 Eggs.
5 in the broody pen, 1 is laying and 4 who should be by now... plus 1 who is too young to lay, and 1 unknown gender (Silkie) and I get zip.

we might get as much as 1 inch of snow tonight. all I did for the dome was tie down the one strip of vinyl that I keep untied for sunshiny weather. I need to get plastic up on the front wall and door, and work on wrapping tarps on the other pens, but it's been raining, so a little bit at a time, and I'll get it done. just came in for some nice hot coffee and a warm up... the broody pen is easiest, I have the vinyls strips with grommets that I used last year. I have one seriously huge tarp that covers almost the entire bachelor pen, but it's too dark. I will have to use translucent plastic on the front wall so they have more light.

back to work!
cheeka post a close up of the face. I have some silkies, so I can tll by the age and face/comb now

We finally found transportation for Moms dialysis. I an so nervous about it, moms a shut-in basically.
I have a cell phone for her and taught her to use it. If she is the least bit uncomfortable, then I will be taking her PERIOD.
Also have a surgeon to meet with for Dads surgery. It goes thru a vein in the shoulder rather than cracking the rib cage open.
Praying it can be done this way. Less evasive and no where near as traumatic. Waiting to hear how bad the blockages are in his bypasses.
Hoping he can go this route. My aunt his oldest sister had the older type surgery and her valve is failing 6 years later.
Hope everyone is well. Miss being on here!

many hugs and prayers for your Mom and Dad, and you and the whole family for strength to get through all of this. most folks who volunteer to transport patients have a Servants Heart, and are gentle and kind, after all, it's their pleasure to do this. or they wouldn't. My Dad has had several stints, some last longer than others... but technology has certainly improved, I pray your Dad can go the easy route!

the bottom of my slipper... it's backwards, but it speaks the truth... Life is good!

this is the best picture I have as yet of the Silkie. I probably should catch it and bring it in for pictures where I have more control over the lighting. it is so hard to get any detail outdoors. it's so reflective. I posted some pics in a Silkie sexing thread, got a couple responses for both sexes... the crest is pretty much still pin feathers. I'll try later today...

Janet, I'll be praying for you and your mom and dad. Sounds like your mom might be similar to my folks, they don't want to put you to any trouble. That's not so helpful, though, because then we are stuck worrying about them and sometimes have to play the parent role and coerce them to do what's best. The surgeons can do amazing things now and hopefully it will go easy for your dad. Keep us updated when you can. We'll be thinking of you.

By the way, why can't you eat the duck eggs?
