Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hi all! Just letting you know that I am joining the egg watch. It felt kind of stalker-like to read the thread without saying anything. My three pullets are 17 weeks old, so probably have a little bit to go, but their wattles and combs get bigger and redder every day and they are getting big, poofy butts, which seems like progress. The Barred Rock hung out in the nest box clucking to herself for awhile while the other two slunk around outside the coop door looking vaguely embarrassed, but it was just a cruel taunt. Hattie, the Easter Egger, hallucinates hawks and drives everyone back into the coop with a big fluttering commotion about every three seconds. I believe she has gender confusion issues. It's probably my fault for naming her Hatshepsut. My little Welsummer may be my only hope for a sane chicken.

Anyway, nothing much to say, just letting you know I am here, watching, waiting, hoping, fruitlessly checking the nest box, offering layer feed, and tomatoes, and oyster shells, and artfully arranged table scraps, while the BR goes into the nest box and clucks and snickers . .

sounds like your BR is singing the PIE song. Ignore her.

Awww, thank you all for the welcome! Yes, Hecate (the BR) lies. Again, I suspect it's my fault for my weird naming proclivities. Or, it could just be her control-freak nature. In the evening, as the girls all feel the "chickens of the corn" draw to go to the coop, she climbs up the teeter to stare at me, trying to summon me in to the coop. I finally started keeping that curtain closed because it was rather creepy.

I'll place straw bales along the front wall, on either side of the door.

more straw bales along the front wall here too

and again, straw bales along the base of the end.

the green text "door" indicates a door on the inside, for access from Archie and Si's chamber into Royce and Carl's. it's tacky looking, but I don't care.

it's been overcast all day, and supposed to start sprinkling rain soon. kind of boring.

I hope you posted this in the Chickens in Your Face thread. Now that the chicken coops are set up all nice and cozy, and your house is all spiffed up for sale, what are you going to do with yourself? Rest maybe?

Howdy Whoops!

If you have a BR, you've come to the right place. We know how to deal with them!

Look into my eyes.... Ignore us at your peril, humans. Bwahahaha!
