Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

It has blown snow here all day! The chickens weren't really fazed... The G.Comets all laid and the EE laid too! That gives me 8 for the day!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!
Hope all you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are going to be on the road quite a bit this weekend, first going to both my grandmother's tomorrow, and then Saturday we have to go to the UNC/Duke football game because my daughter won Academic Allstar tickets! That's a 4 hr drive, so that will be an all day trip!

Eat lots of turkey and trimmings! I know we are going to!

Harriet says that there better not be any chickens on your plates!

Is it really a girl for sure?  How old is she?
I just assumed it was a young cockerel based on the coloring, which I agree, is gorgeous.  I was going to say that if you think he looks nice now, just wait until he gets his adult plumage.    Finding a pullet like that is sort of like finding a male calico cat, a rare genetic curiosity.

I know there's a small chance she can be a roo. She's a hatchery sexed "americauna". (Aka Easter egger.) she's 22-24 weeks, and no combs, waddles or crowing.

Edited to add : this is the other bird from the same hatchery group I bought

Happy thanksgiving to all of you! It is clear and really cold here. Water and feed was frozen, but everone is well. Today is also my birthday, it has already been great!
I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday!

Every year around this time, Sears sends out their oven salesmen door-to-door. The man walks up to a house, and when invited in, he will show you a book of ovens that are being sold at a deep discount. His big pitch is, "If you buy right now for Thanksgiving delivery, I will even throw in a free curtain!"
Do you know what the curtain is for???????

So you won't see the turkey dressing!

that curtain one is a real groan'er...

I spent a lovely relaxing day at home, by myself. totally by choice ~ I had a few invites, and felt zero guilt turning them all down. I had cancelled the NYC trip a few days ago because of the storm. I have to work 2 routes tomorrow and Saturday, so I thought a restful day was best. besides, my niece and nephew will be coming up on 12/8 with my folks - now that should be fun! I'll cook up a feast and take lots of pictures

I decided to try something. I moved LF EE Rooster, Royce in to the bantam pen. he's been alone, and I am sure, cold... I stayed out with them for a long while to watch their behavior, and take some pics...and returned a few times over the afternoon - fine and dandy. no squabbling, no chest bumping, not even a flare. I had a feeling it would be all right - he sleeps on the end of their roost, mashed up against the chain link and touching one of the Wee's... and he hangs at the chain wall that divides them. all 8 of them fit on the same roost... Royce has to be happier... or at the least, warmer... I can tell his bad foot is bugging him - remember he busted his toe last December when he kicked me? well, he's got it curled up pretty tight and he keeps that foot close to his body, standing most of the time on just the one good foot... I brought in a load of fresh hay to warm the ground. they look cute all together

I had leftover pork roast that I wanted to use to make Split Pea soup with, but I spaced it out... so I warmed the meat and divvied it up for the 2 groups. I had left the Dome door open, if anyone wanted to taste the snow... and brought some meat to the boys... well! when I came back, Chester was in the dome, eating the meat!

he had no collar - and the broken remains were on the front lawn. thank goodness he didn't chase any of the chickens (or worse...) he still ignores them... I had nothing but his scruff to hang onto and when we got close to the front door, he wrenched free and took off... he stayed on the property, I could always see him, and he spent almost an hour on the loose. naughty boy. he'll have to wear his halter until I get around to picking up a collar... anyway, the chickens were all crammed toward the back of the dome, watching him sniff and taste their dinner... as soon as I had him out of there, they were right back at that meat! it was all gone in less than 10 minutes. good piggies...

2 Eggs. just like everyday of late. one dark brown, one green.
