so much accomplished today! the whole chicken ranging yard is plowed down to grass - free range Sunday should be lots of fun! it's supposed to be fairly sunny and in the 30's - it will be like a heat wave! and a fresh load of straw in all the pens and nests - so nice and cozy... I have a few (mostly boys) with a touch of frostbite on combs and one with some on wattles... got the Vetericyn going on... they'll be okay.

(only) 3 Eggs today.

Guys, need advice. I have a turken/Naked Neck pullet. She is in my grow out coop with other birds her same age.
They are all about 3 months old.
Today when I went out to change waterers, she has a wound, large one, on her neck.
The skin has been torn off a large area of the back of her neck, like a bad mating wound!
I am stumped, none of the boys are old enough, and she isn't a low pecking order girl either!
Right now, just want to cover the wound. Would blukote or iodine spray be a better choice?
I have brought her in so she can heal without further attacks or injury.

I've used Blue Kote on all the major injuries with great success - great gaping bloody wounds - just clean the area well, dab dry and spray a good coating. she may have had a smaller injury from mating or getting caught on something made worse by the others pecking at her. she'll be okay. good idea to separate.

Olive had the top of her head ripped open, it was so nasty... but Blue Kote was all I used, it has taken 8 months for the feathers to regrow, the skin healed within a few weeks... I love the tiny little feather up front that is sticking up... she had such a beautiful crest... just last week she still had a quarter (25 cent piece) sized pink bald spot on her head. it's entirely filled in with tiny feathers...

Opal has finished molting, and is more lovely than before, I named her Opal because she always looks like a different color... she is silvery blue, but you can see that she reflects the pink bucket just standing next to it...

For sure bring her in and process all of your roosters just in case they caused it.

I am serious. And I am going to "knock off" this RIR macho man if you don't do something about him tomorrow. Who in the hell does he think he is?
