Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

The hatch date was late yesterday night, and I am pretending to hope until Thursday, because they are a breed that tends to dawdle about it, apparently. I am ecstatic that I got George! She is so vigorous and cute, and I wasn't expecting anything after the cold spell and USPS delivery delay.

I sent of picture of her to the seller, just so the seller could see she was cute, blue and had feathered legs. The seller felt bad about the poor hatch rate, too, and immediately offered to send more eggs so I could give it another shot.

And I should have a companion for George tomorrow, so all is well.

thats good to hear! Its ok to leave the remaining eggs up to 5 days if there is NO ODOR. I do a sniff test, yep smell them!
I have had a few hatch as long as 5 days late, especially waterfowl. If you get a hint of odor and trust me, it is noticable, then the eggs need to go.

Does anyone use a havobator and do you use water in yours?
First I am no hatching expert. But here is my thought. If you hatched one of those eggs and you did then I doubt you did anything wrong on your end. I tend to believe that those eggs were bad or not fertile before you put them in the bator. I would have to crack them open and see if anything developed (from a safe distance of course). But like Jchnny says they still might hatch. Keep us posted this is interesting. I would follow Jchnny's advice she has been doing hatching for a while now. My bator is not a hovabator so can't answer the question. But I do use water in mine.

My understanding is that the water makes humidity and the humidity is vital at hatch time so they can get out of the shell. If they don't have the humidity then they die trying to get out of the shell. In that case you should find fully developed chicks inside of the unhatched eggs. Another good reason to crack them open to see what happened. But wait till there is no hope.

what a day! it's downright frigid... but the flock was fine, and the girls laid 7 Eggs!

I got to go to the big city for Chinese buffet and a movie - this buffet is terrific and now even more so! several dishes were actually labelled gluten free! some of those dishes I've never had because they looked like they couldn't be safe... either the coating or the sauce... so I got to try bites of 5 new dishes! honey chicken and the "snow" chicken are the toss up for the best.

we saw American Hustle, which was good. a bit slow to start, but good with a fun twist at the end.

turned the cell phone back on, and had missed calls. only 1 was important. my Dad is in the hospital. he had bronchitis before Christmas, then picked up the flu, shared it with my Mom, and now he has pneumonia. he's almost 82. they are pumping him full of antibiotics and fluids. spoke with Mom, she's worried, but I think I was able to put her mind at some ease. prayers are welcome.

Hope everyone had a phenomenal day!
Happy for you cheeka. Hope mom and dad recover quickly. If you see Roger tell her to get home the Happy New Year is over.

Here are my eggs from yesterday. Rogue was fine outside last night. He wasn't happy this morning when he was outside and everyone else was still in the coop. I have already gotten 6 comet eggs and I accidentally ran Twix out of the nest.

nice eggs lindz, I got 5 today, but 2 were seriously frozen and cracked. we are over 8" of accumulation and it's still snowing hard.

I'm so in need of a nap, but it's so late already, I might as well wait and go to bed early.
