Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

You better get a "gang" of food back here and I don't mean maybe. I am covered in frostbite from the top of my comb to the tip of my toes. It's bad I tell you.
NO....you are full of sh...poop from the top of your comb to the tip of your toes. Why did you run out the door when it was -25 below zero (wind chill) and stand out there in the cold holding a foot up at a time so you wouldn't freeze to the ground? Nobody else went outside. Did you think the coop was on fire? And what is going on in the broody coop? Don't you dare try to influence those young BR pullets. If trouble breaks out your goose is cooked Roger

Something is going on in the broody coop. Five BR's roost tightly together on one end of the roost and the five Delawares roost tightly together on the other end. I think gangs are forming.
I think it's just a "birds of a feather" thing, but be on your toes.

ahhhhh I had to come to the office today..... I could def get use to full time work at home but my boss would never allow that. I'm going to push my luck today and go home at lunch since I have 3 hrs of meetings this afternoon that can be done via phone.

Jchny - I wish you lived closer so I could see your operation. I want everything you have (except maybe the quail.... what do you do with quail??).

Welcome - grayed!!!!! I love my Easter Eggers. I also have some birds just for fun (a polish and 2 silkies). There is so much to choose from but I guarantee whatever you get you'll be happy with. I thought all these chicken people were just plain nuts til I got my own. It only took me a day to fall in love with my group!
Quail are for meat and eggs. I have around 10-11 adults as breeders. I hatch and grow out around 30 for a meal, (6 adults).
Put them in a marinade or brine overnight then freeze.
The eggs are just amazing and very healthy for you. I want to pickle some, they are soo good that way

The only critters here that aren't food are the geese (watchdogs) goats (milk) and peafowl (watchdogs and hawk guardians!).
Sadie my pug. Opie & Andy the oscars of course, lol!
Jchny he is a Great Dane and thinks he is a little thing. Lol
Aww, all the big breeds are that way. My English mastiff Sampson was a lap dog too.
And my rottie, Rommel made us finally buy a king sized bed!

lucky lindz! 51* in the coop is nice! we hit a max of 22* outside, I moved the thermometer to the front of the house, so I don't know what the interior temp inside the dome is, but it must be about 35*. it's chilly, but the water doesn't freeze and I'm comfy without hat and gloves... the back pens... cold. cold. cold. but not drafty. still battling frostbite, the white rooster... I feel bad, he might lose a tip or 2.

maybe not. it's finally supposed to be above freezing tomorrow.
We finally go above freezing tomorrow. I had my scovies and chinese in the porch!
They were not handling the sub zero crap at all. They got to go back out yesterday when the temps finally got above 0
I thought one duck had frostbite but I think she just couldn't take the cold, she is walking normally now.

I also didn't like my Wyandottes and traded them for Easter eggers. My G.comets (sexlinks) are great layers and I usually get 6 eggs a day from the 7 of them. Cochins are sweet docile birds that tend to go broody at the drop of a hat. I personally don't have any barred rocks and I am a little afraid of them after hearing about Roger...... lol.
BR really are sweet birds, and lay very well too. I have 1. I want MORE. Mabel is a doll, just love her.
I have hard many having nice wyandottes. Letting all but my originals go to a friend, she likes them and wants layers.
Even some of my younger pullets are pretty mean, just can't have it with mom and dad.

Cheeka is giving a temporary home to a smallish flock of chickens, but she's anticipating that the people won't come back for them. Her foster chickens are kept in the foster pen. (oops, didn't see that Cheeka already responded. Derrrp.

Although, I think she ought to mix them in with the others soon. Then, if the former owners come back, you can claim ignorance about which

are whose.

Not much new around here. Hubs is still overseas. Weather is still nice. Nobody is sick. (yay) Got 3 eggs and 1 egglet today, pretty typical. The only new thing is that there is a chance it might rain, just a bit, on Sat eve. Now I've got to wash the car, hang out laundry, and water the plants really well to make sure it dos rain. Think it will work?

that oughta do it!

hope you get rain soon.

Barred Rocks lay eggs? Would someone please mention that to mine?

And, my EE is flat out bonkers.

I think the whole "chickens laying eggs" thing is a myth. Who would believe eggs came out of a chicken's tush? It seems as fantastical as unicorns and flying reindeer. The guy at the feed store probably goes in back and snickers when I buy oyster shell and layer feed, and (snicker) nesting boxes. Velociraptors don't nest.

Maybe George or Astrid will step up and pop out eggs, when they get a little bigger than eggs, themselves. Though, they are probably roosters, the little sneaks. Maybe if they are roos, I can toss them in with my Barred One and see if that gets her going.
And, OK, if Roger has started recruiting gangs, I fear for ya, man.
