FIVE.....Today we laid FIVE

The good news is broody was with the rest of the flock all afternoon and all of the eggs were cold, meaning she wasn't sitting on them
When they roosted she got in the nest box so when it got dark enough I went in there in the dark and got her out of the nest box and placed her on the roost pole with the other birds. She settled right in and is still there. She really needs to get back
to being a chicken and roosting with the others.

I kinda feel

I should be happy, and I am!
But not realizing it makes me feel

How could I ignore her when she has begun laying? She has special needs, and I haven't been there for her (like a 16 - yr -old having a baby in secret)
I really feel bad!
<sigh> She is a chicken, and she is laying. I know now, and I can start tomorrow on giving her the special attention she needs. Special calcium mash. Lots of ... Whatever I can.
I would post this on the "Special needs" thread, but it is more about my baby girl is not a baby anymore, than IDK how to get enough calcium in her.
So, let the celebration begin, I have another layer! Woo hoo!
I am not crazy. I am a Mom.

it's okay... tomorrow you can celebrate with her! I'm sure oyster shell can be pulverized into powder, or small enough pieces for her to get enough, and tho' some people don't recommend dairy products, I think plain yogurt is fine in moderation and might allow her to absorb a little more calcium... but since she laid an egg

she ain't hurtin' for it too bad is she???
I missed Rose's coming of age cuz Wilma pulled a Roger.... she forgave me

Yeah, I wouldn't beat myself up over it, I'm sure the chicken doesn't mind...now the sixteen year old had us with her in the er, so she wasn't alone then either...sometimes it just works out that way.

Little broody has gave up on her quest to be a mommy and rejoined the flock. Roosted with the rest of the flock tonight with no help from me. She tried so hard. I feel bad for her but its good to see her back to normal.

it's for the best... she'll brood for you in the Spring I bet!

I had a long day, my BH found one brown and one cream egg today, the cream egg is the best of the "cream" colored yet! it's "egg" shaped and a nice size. still think it's just Betty, but Wilma is so ready....and squatting like crazy... maybe it is hers... the first 3 cream colored eggs are weeny little round ones, very light colored.
have a long day tomorrow, but I should be able to get some pictures up.
Hurray for TWO eggs! today was Blu's day off..

I saw the post on the other site. I know what you gave Wilma. She better lay some eggs!

Good she stopped her broodiness. It's a little late in the year for chicks, not impossible but I think they grow up better when hatched out early spring, and now is not te time for her to loose body fat/weight going into winter...she's much better off now. :)
