Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I agree with you about no cats on the counter. I've taught all my cats to keep off the counters and tables. Staying off the bed pillows never happened with the last cat, though. He loved to walk and curl up on the place you lay your face every night. My poor hubby in particular was grossed out by this, but the kids loved it.

This is how I trained my cat to keep off the pillows.... He sleeps on me instead.

and welcome to the thread... I should have been heading out the door for work when I gave MHO about egg prices, but I was dawdling, finishing my coffee... being half here and half there mentally... I slipped.

so...
Welcome!!!

if you stick around... maybe we can entice you into Barred Rocks someday... every flock should have one that hopefully isn't a Wilma... or worse, A Roger. but a nice RK Broody would be nice... or Spot, and I'm sorry... I can't remember the other names

I've got Ramen simmering in the bucket for the gang, just have to add feed and seed and I'm good to go out and check on everyone, get fresh water... it's frozen in the Bachelor Pens, guaranteed. high today 20. real feel 15. not terrible, but still cold. it's probably close to 40 inside the Dome. it's nice in there, wish it was bigger.

Speckles turned up last night, at my feet, all the way at the other end of the house! She came into the den. DH said hey! There's your bird!
Its like she got cold and wanted to go to bed, lol! So I scooped her up, gave her some mealies and went to bed too.

robncindy WELCOME!!!

It is Esther! and she's fully covering 3 large fowl eggs!

ain't she somethin'? so for now, I have 1 from the Fosters, and the 3 from under Esther... I have to go back out around 4 to get Esther's egg and I'm hopeful to find maybe another from Beulah, who was poking around right after I took this pic. I need to make a change in cohabitation. Peach is going to need hatching eggs soon - about 2-3 weeks I figure. Henry is a juvenile... I doubt his fertility at this point. I want Royce to be with those I know are laying, they are all varied and beautiful, it would give me a variety of crosses, Betty the BR, Rose the RIR, Beulah the EE, Cosette and Genvieve the Marans, they are still "pullets", but they lay nice sized fertile eggs. Royce is EE, with blue egg genes. so I"ll get light blue/green, darker blue/green and olive. I haven't seen too many Isis eggs, but I would throw her in too... she lays gorgeous light blue, so that would be reinforced nicely. Peachy will want to sit on eggs. and I want to breed her with the bantam boys in the True Spring and Summer. she raised 3 broods last year... if she sits on 5 or 6 LF eggs for the first round... she and I will be happy...and then she can do the next brood with Henry, and possibly the 3rd round... I do love Cochins... and they'd be 25% EE for cuteness factor... but I really like Rhody and Red, the RIR's... for beauty I should only use Red, he's got serious Show Sheen... but Rhody is a sweet leader. he's no wuss, but he doesn't need to fight to the death either, plus he dances, he works it... he's got the personality that everyone wants. Someone I know has Mille Fleur D'Uccle pullets for me as well, so I can breed Max and Tommy - they are seriously beautiful little cockerels. I'll be able to continue breeding Royce if one of the lovely large Cochin ladies decides to brood... and if anyone wants hatching eggs ~~ Please don't hesitate to let me know! ~~ I'll be able to get a huge variety of combinations, just they'll all be EE's... Cold hardy, friendly, good layers... I will learn as time goes by if Royce has 1 copy or 2 of the blue gene, the claim is 2, but he's still from a hatchery and they called him Araucana. I have known pink egg layers... if he has 2 copies, I'll lose that pink eventually... just means expanding and getting another LF Rooster!

tomorrow is processing day for the 3 Foster Roosters. 2 are young enough to be roasters, the older boy is soup.

THIS IS A GOOD REMINDER....of why some schools close even when there is only an inch or two of snow. This is suburban Asheville, N.C. today - where a bus overturned with middle school students on board. Keep in mind, there are no seatbelts on school buses. Six kids had minor bumps and bruises, one girl was transported with minor injuries. Curt Autry NBC 12

I reminded my husband that since they aren't use to snow the roads aren't prepped/salted/brined like ours are up north.

Well that makes your heart skip a few beats. Studies show that the kids are actually safer without seat belts (most of the time), if they are sitting properly in their seats. Sometimes I think they need seat belts to keep them sitting properly! Dan, our school bus driver when I was a kid, told me they put a bowling ball on a board across the back seats and crashed a bus going 35. The bowling ball went through the windshield.
