Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

There are supposed to be morels around here, but I've never seen one. They're darkish and have a very wrinkled looking, rocket shaped cap. They are the most prized, and people who find them won't tell where. Secret goes to the grave!
That's it however some of them are lighter but most are a darker color. When you find one you can usually find several. Find them in the spring after a rain. I have heard various reasons for why they grow and where they grow best but have never been able to figure out the perfect spot or pattern. I don't think there is one. Takes the perfect conditions of buried decaying wood best I can tell... and shade....and temperature.....and a good eye...and no deer

Hehe!  Amazing what a little rain will do!  First time I've seen green stuff since early June!  It's been so brown and crunchy.  The hills are just now showing a hint of green.  Should be 2 ft of grass on the range lands by now.  The cattle auctions are very busy around here.

In what part of our great nation do you live?  Or is that a state secret?  (Get it? State secret! :gig Very punny!!!)
I live in the wonderful state of NJ! I was an Air Force brat growing up and NJ was the last base my dad was stationed at before he retired. My sister and I were in high school at the time so my parents were kind enough to both stay in the area. 20 yrs later and we're all still in the area! My dad did end up moving to PA but I'm a Jersey girl thru and thru!!!

I know where hundreds of morel mushrooms can be found. But its PIE or I will take it to my grave as well

Roger dear, if those mushrooms saw you coming, they would shrink right back into the ground. I know the perfect fungus for you- Dead Man's Foot. Have your dad look it up for you. You'll love it. I can send you lots!

Hey, small world. My dad was a navy (test) pilot stationed up and down the eastern seaboard. Older brother born in Virginia, I was born in Maryland, and younger sis in NJ. NJ is the only place I remember, especially the huckleberries and fireflies and horseshoe crabs. Dad decided to leave the military after a little curfluffle with his C.O. He was told to do a hard landing test of a twin rotor helicopter, and he refused after reviewing the documentation tapes from Sikorsky, which showed that the long front rotors would flex downward upon landing. He refused the order because he knew, in a hard landing (no power) the rotors would bend so far as to cut the tail off. Needless to say, C.O. was not happy, called him a big stupid chicken s**t, and stormed off to do the test himself.

The test did not go well for the C.O. Dad knew military life would not be easy for him after the embarrassing destruction a very expensive piece of equipment. He left to fly commercial, and we moved out to California in 1970. Been here happily ever since. There was always a respect issue for dad since he started as an enlisted man, pipefitter on ship in the Pacific, and worked his way up and through cadet school to become a pilot, flying helicopter support off of carriers (they rescued the pilots who landed in the sea). Every ocean going commander he worked under gave him excellent reviews and he was always squadron leader or training officer or something, because he understood what it was like to be a grunt, and always volunteered for things others would not. On the strong recommendation of one of those commanders, he was assigned one of the coveted spots at the testing center (he didn't ask for it). Some out of the navel academy, with their college educations and well connected families, who never pulled any but the cushiest of duties, thought him to be an inferior and undeserving sort. Classism in the military! Who'd a thunk it?! Well, in the end he showed them who knew his stuff, but retribution would have been long and unpleasant when really all you're supposed to say is "yes sir."

And so ends this brief biographical interlude. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Cochins are so cute, they way they walk with all that fluff and feathery feet. Makes them look like they're wearing hoop skirts.

To be honest, the cage was placed on one of the greenest areas we have right now. Most of the rest of it is moist dirt with little bits of green poking up. Give it another week or two and there might be something worthy of envy. Unless, of course, this is it for the rain. Hope not.

Remember back in mid-October I got myself a new little cat? Well, Ming is quite miffed that I posted pictures of the Cochins before any of her. I am officially in the doghouse cathouse.

She is at this moment racing around the house! Vroooom. More like galumph-galumph. How a tiny little cat can make so much noise is beyond me! Hope she doesn't wake the kids.

So, without further ado, meet Ming!

Okay, so I need more practice with the camera! Every time I try to take her picture, she starts walking toward me, looking for food. (She is every bit as bad as Roger in that department.)

I did get a few decent ones.

Ming, my 2 keeper Cochins, and the kitchen floor are all about the same color. Coincidence??

Always underfoot in the kitchen, hoping for a morsel to drop.

Stands up and walks on hind legs to beg for food. Circus cat!

She makes me think of a grey puma.

Tired of posing. Time for a cat nap.
