Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Did you guys hear about the house chicken that saved a couple's life? It was in WI on Friday I think. They got out with one cat and the chicken. One cat died inside.

Brrrrr. It is cold today...mostly the wind, there are some tourists in t shirts fishing on the lake. They are in some heavy brush, working their way around...should I tell them about what I think may be a moniter lizard living in there that's been killing coons? The culvert pipe they started on I thought a good place for gators, but what do I know?

This is pretty funny! This book is due out this February. It is just pictures of male models with chicks! The cover photo has a chick on his bicep. Who thinks of this stuff?

6 eggs today!! snow got in the nesting box of the store bought coop bc of drifting... but they were laying in there anyway. I tried to block off the tiny opening, and I made it worse. I don't know what to use to fix it, and there is so much snow... which has to be moved out of the way first. I stuffed a garbage bag in there for the meantime.

3 of those 6 eggs were sitting in the snow. I don't think they are fully frozen, but I wonder if they are any good?

I am sure they are fine. The bloom is just not fully intact. Put a blanket or rug over the nestbox, and use a rock or brick on the corners to hold it down. That should keep it dry.
Four eggs total. The 2 in the box were a jumbo and small. The 2 on the floor were large and extra large. Yeay new layers! Big eggs for newbies!

Actually, I assume it is a flip up lid? Put the blanket under the lid.

good idea MC, it is a flip up lid, and I have a nice bathroom floor type rug that I can use to cover it... it should drape just right to cover the slit in the side and still be ventilated

The redtails are thick here. My worst fear here is stray dogs. Lost a baby goat to someones ignorance and inconsiderate nature. pulled my lil bottle baby Sable right thru the gateposts and then just walked away, went after my Dad

He had nothin but shorts on, barefoot, sunday paper in hand. he pelted that dog with rocks!! We never saw it again, but i have a rifle on me anytime my critters are out and bought Dad one too. I know, someday, the owner will pay for the sin and suffering. That's the first time, ever saw my Dad cry.

The redtails will be back in the spring. We get to watch them court and be harassed by the crows. They didn't show any interest in the chickens this summer, thank goodness. Dogs are absolutely the biggest fear, but it is always the owners' fault, and there should be more penalties other than killing the dog. The stupid people will just get a new one. When I was a kid, the neighbor's pitt came over and tried to kill a stud pony my folks used for teasing. Ripped the skin off his neck from chin to chest, but he survived. My mom tried to kill the dog with a pitchfork, not sure if he survived. Luckily I was at school. 30 years later, same stupid neighbors, different dog almost killed an elderly neighbor taking a walk up the road. Very frustrating. I know exactly how your dad felt.

Here's a pic called, asking for trouble. The black stag walking up is challenging, he lost, again, but I was there to scoop him up and put him back in his pen.

What drama! The black and white looks so much bigger. Poor little black one at the mercy of his own hormones.

I saved a big bag of venison bones including leg bones, rib cage ect in my freezer. I just couldn't throw it away knowing the chickens would love picking those bones clean. It really takes up a lot of room in the freezer so I been taking bones out pretty regular, browning them in the oven and giving them a bone every day or two. So the run is littered with all these leg bones and rib bones and it looks like somebody unearthed a dinosaur in there. They never give up on a bone if there is anything that looks like it might come off of it. And having lots of bones nobody has to fight over one. So anybody who didn't know better would think they killed a cow and ate it. And the chickens would be mistaken for vultures in that setting. Really a gruesome scene but a bunch of very happy birds/knuckleheads

Oh dear! What does it say about me that I enlarged the picture to see if I could tell what type of chick it was?

Sorry to hear you get migraines. Nasty things. I used to get them in my younger days, but only very rarely since having kids. You'd think the opposite would be true!!!

The article about the life-saving chicken was great. Wonder if the people know about pie rewards? Although, if it was a house chicken, it's probably spoiled enough.
