animallover.........I'm really hoping that I never have to buy any more hatchery birds... I will let my gang hatch eggs if there is a broody, they will all be EE as I only have EE roosters, but I should be able to create some fabulous combos with the BR's especially... my big plan is to get some really fine heritage Barred Rocks from perhaps, the Good Shepherd line, in Spring of 2014. there is someone in Syracuse NY who has them. I will expand my coops and dome this Spring, and if they all survive, then I'll know I'm ready to get some quality stock. the Good Shepherd Barred Rocks are like optical illusions, they have ringlets in their barring, meaning the lines go all the way around the body without distinct breaks... makes our wonderful and charming hatchery barred rocks look like an entirely different breed... and this line in particular is prized for it true dual purpose, great egg layers and great for meat... lots of them go into shows, but I'm not a show person, for any critter... I want a trio, 2 pullets, 1 cockerel to start, and then get to hatching out a flock.
W4W, that's the pitts... remember bh? he has the most severely damaged spine for someone who can still walk... it's no fun... glad I don't have a bad back... I can deal with a few pulled muscles!
