Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

4 eggs today, two being BR cream colored eggs, and Wilma's has a great shell, so it was an easy fix... little calcium.

I had the gang out again today, and opened the chicks run door, got a couple of really cute videos, now if I can figure out how to get them out of the phone and onto the computer... I should have used my regular camera. it's just the memory card then... I've gotten the phone to load on the computer, just need to figure out how to get to the videos.

one chick came out. just one. the rest hovered just outside the door, or just inside... the one that did come out made a circuit around the pen and hung out for a bit on one of the maple chunks. Si kept everyone else from going far. he was just so adorable tho', going in their pen and dancing for them. he didn't peck, not even when a few of the chicks pecked at him.

if I can figure the phone out, I'll post the best videos later.

The coop is done for all accounts and purposes. I got 3 in earlier today.

A BCM hen lost all of her tail feathers. It must have been stress, because she hardly moved away from me, and they all appeared in my hand. I know she is okay, but I do feel bad. I waited until dark to get the other two. After waking up at 5:12 to a crowing rooster under my floor, I was NOT going to have that another night! I still need a lock for the nest box. I have some wood on it now, and will use a brick tomorrow. I did get an egg today. Not very dark, but last week I was told that they hadn't begun laying yet. This may be her first egg!
12 eggs total. I have to check a pullet tomorrow. She is either egg bound, or something ... better? I was going to check her tonight, but it really is that nasty out. She is puffed up, lethargic, and has greenish wet poo. Egg bound is very bad. I think she may have gotten some glass too. Those are my two guesses.
I know I want another door at the one end. Maybe both. I forgot to put roofing paper on the outside of the nest box, and one door had to be a wall. Until I figure out some problems with the coop, that will stay the way it is.
I am happy that I made a coop. I am also glad I made it bigger than I wanted to (though it would have been SOOOO much easier!!).
I went to two TSC, held a duckling (never found out what it was) and offended a worker at the other. A RIR has a messed up leg. He was offended that I asked about it.

way cool MC! Congrats! gotta feel good to have it done! also congrats for the new layer, hopefully your other gal will be all right, OK had an episode requiring attention last year, and it worked itself out... warm bath? I think... maybe a little light massage would help.

got the videos on the computer, and got my favorite one posted on FB, but I cannot figure out how to load it on here without loading it to youtube first... I can do that, but it would be so much easier if I could drag it and drop it... or load it like a picture... I'm still trying and it's getting late, may not get it loaded tonight.

Cheeka, aren't you glad you didn't eat Si? He sounds like a sweetie. Does he leave Ruby alone?


MC, sounds like you made good progress on the coop. Nothing motivates like being awakened at 5 am!

I hope your pullet is okay. Puffed up and lethargic is not a good sign. No blood in the poops? That would be coccidiosis. There are so many things it could be, though.

We got 8 eggs today! First time I've seen that many in about a month. Still don't think they're cured of whatever the problem is. I used the most questionably ineffective (but safest) thing out there, and it was certainly questionably ineffective. I have to do the follow up worming tomorrow and got a different (and very pricey) wormer which kills all the types they can get. If this doesn't help them, then I am stumped. No eating eggs for 2 weeks, not even for the dogs, with this new stuff. Seems almost criminal to toss the eggs.

Luckily, I have a few dozen saved up from before all this started. We are using them sparingly to make 'em last. I certainly don't want to buy eggs. Guess we are waiting it out for a different reason than most!
