Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I remember she was sooo mad at me, but i had gooped bag balm all over her back too. The next day, changed the apron, more bag balm... in a week the poor baby was healed. Really glad I had 2 aprons, washed one while the other was on. be sure to take before and after pics, I wish I had.

The proof is in the pics!

Did I post pics of Penny with her apron? Life has been so crazy, I don't know.

The bald spots on her wings just happened that morning. She was great about having me put it on.
So how long until her feathers are back?
In the last few days, I have gotten stuff for a new run (except one corner piece that 5 (or was it six?) hardware stores don't have. I will make do for now. I hope to build it tomorrow.
The chicks are now in the outside basement stairwell. Too tired to give many details. I put them in there late this afternoon. Here is a pic. I will post more (with them) tomorrow.

Found an extra Marans egg today. That means I was an EE short of perfect yesterday.

My Mabel took weeks, but her back was bald, and torn up badly. She had some bad scabbing too, poor thing was a mess.It was one of those deals where u took her or u knew she was dead, her and Bunny both. ( dumb i know, I just couldn't stand it! I am really glad I did now) Looks like a good spot, they will like the stairs for perching and hopping. Hope you re doing ok! Is your house guest still s guest?

I think all of mine were mad at me over this deal. I put that thing on her with the bright colors out or showing and they all went crazy. I had to take it back off to calm everybody down. The reverse side is denium color so I waited till the next day and put it back on her with the denium side out. They still don't like it one bit but couldn't wait any longer. Her back was getting really bare. I need to lay off of the "meat bird" talk for a while. They thought the day had arrived. If only they knew how safe they really are

Seems to have calmed down but I did notice she was roosting at the far end of the pole last night by herself. I think warm weather will make her broody and she will take her a break from the rest of the rednecks. Love the way it covers her back. Do any of you all have the ones that cover the wing tips too. I read about those. Need to go find it again. She needs help in that area too.

Quote: Will try to get pictures. Really wanted to leave well enough alone when they calmed down. I gave them some stale bread and i'm back to being their hero again. Except for Roger she is still pouting about not getting those new chicken shoes they have out now. I told her that she could not have shoes until she stops intentionally walking in poop and tracking it everywhere when she don't get her way. Which reminds me .....one morning recently I let the gang out of the coop. Roger usually leads the charge because food is involved and I put the scraps and scratch in the run for them to look for in the leaves in the morning. On this particular morning, the devil.......do I need to mention the name?......just sat there on the roost which was so odd. I thought she was sick or something just wasn't right. So I gently picked her up thinking I would set her down on the floor of the coop to see what she would do. She began to struggle and flap her wings violently so to keep from dropping her I wrestled to regain my grip on her finally losing her and she landed on the floor and ran like heck to the run outside (I'm sure laughing like crazy all the way) Instantly I realized that I was covered in that stinky brown poop on my hands and arms. She had got off the roost pole and walked in that stuff on the poop board and then hopped back up on the roost to set ole dumb me up for a dirty nasty trick. I could see the tracks where she had went out of her way to walk in it. I kid you not. This little nut case is a evil bit.. I don't like that word but I did use it that morning. Instantly added her to the "meat bird" list that morning.

LOL, OK! Cadbury likes to walk in the poop too. She is the reason I have to have my hair securely tied back, and tucked into a jacket before entering the coop. If she can, she even walks in my hair. I have the hood up most of the time. IDK what I will do in the heat of Summer. It doesn't look like I have a choice but to wear the jacket.
I have also thought about the butterfly wings. I am thinking of the detachable (with Velcro) ones.
