Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

. My dad will be home today from the mountains. He has been riding four wheelers in eastern Ky. He was looking for a Mercedes with a load of chickens in it in the mountains.(ACW). Just wanted to give you all a update. How you like my picture?

Very nice, Roger. But please tell your dad that going away without saying a word makes people worry.

AL, did you charge up the batteries for the camera??????

I delivered chicks for 7.5 hours today, all over the district, 260 miles... but it was great! sweltering hot in the car, just for them... it was below freezing this morning, all my waterers were frozen... but it warmed up to near 60 by 4 pm.

I got 8 eggs today! a few pullet eggs, and one from Peach, and the rest from the older girls who are doing so much better now that they are not being harassed by roosters. much calmer... I let them out for a couple of hours this afternoon, it was chilly for me, but so nice. I got a lot of really nice pictures. and they did not wander far from the dome. they actually made a point to stay out of eyesight of the roosters! when it was time to go in, there was no "ring around the lilac" game, which drives me bonkers...

the highlight of the day ~ the younger girls essentially lined up for me, and squatted! one by one, they came for feather stroking, some with great stamping of feet like little drumrolls, some more subtle... and some came back for more and more and more!

I have 25 pics (out of 70)... I'll post them in "small" so it doesn't load up the whole page

Hi Roger! I'm only half Barred Rock, so my name is Pebble. Tell your Dad we say bagawk!

I'm getting error messages... and it took forever for this one to load... I'll clear my cache... and try again later! (anyone else think Pebble is a boy?)

Turns out, the chicks will be here TOMORROW!!!! I have feed and water, shelf-liners over the bedding until they learn what Is and isn't feed, and dad is working on the heat lamp. Am I forgetting anything?
Can't wait to see all the cuties! hope you have a better camera than I do!

Quote: Lovely as ever, Roger dear! Your Dad scared us tho

it's such a bummer that they become so drenched in testosterone. personally, I think 20 to 1 is about the minimum. so I need like 80 more hens if I want to keep all those boys. can't do it. choices will be made. Royce and Carl are the only ones with blue egg gene for sure. Si has the personality. Archie has size and feathered feet... which he seems to pull out... so maybe that's not great for up here in the cold and damp. Pebble, if he is a boy... is my first hatch... sentimental thing...

still getting error messages, so it'll work again in a day or two. bedtime for me, long day tomorrow... long day everyday this week, 63 hours = good for the paycheck

AL, try to start winding down... it's getting late! you've got it covered, especially as long as your camera is on the list... charged up and ready to take tons of pictures, pencils sharpened so you can make lots of drawings... you are going to have so much fun! they'll be there first thing in the morning, you need your rest so you can be able to get up early!
