Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

WOW so young but I am a noob on these banties too. Butters is the flock master of all the bantams so the other roos, there are several.. arent trying, yet. I am waiting to see what develops
A dominant rooster will definitely repress the behavior of the youngsters coming up. There's the occasional challenge, but true fights will most likely only break out among the young cockerels, if at all. We had 3 grown roosters do well together. Only one crowed regularly, top dog. The other two hung around the fringes and sneaked a little action from the hens now and then. They were out free ranging, so not sure how things change when they're penned.

Do we really have to wait for Mother's Day for you to get a camera?

We need more pics on this thread!!!

I'm cross-posting this from the Natural Chicken thread:

Georgia, my broody Cuckoo Marans:

I know I should totally leave her alone, and for the most part I do, but I had to get one photo of her all fluffed up.

I feel bad (here I am attributing human emotions to a chicken) because it's gotta be boring, sitting there with nothing to do. I told my husband I wanted to set up a chicken TV for her, 3 weeks is a lonnnnnng time. Maybe get her a chicken raising book to read or something ;)

W4W, Barney (remember Barney?) crowed at 5 weeks, was chasing the girls at 8-9 weeks and was successful at around 11-12 weeks. glad he got a little something, a fox killed him when he was 15 weeks old... so Donut simply sounds like a dominant roo, like my Ba-ba-ba-Barney...

got the boys home re-organized, a little roofing support is next, and we will do it after an egg supper. my cousin is here to help and we're having a great time!

Si and Carl were right up against the wall by me... left the scene

For now, Si and Carl get along, when that changes, I will divvie them up like Royce and Archie. Archie's wall swings in so I can get through without a door. everyone has a broom handle roost, not very girthy, but it's better than the metal pipes I had to use til today, way too cold for metal roosts!!! it was below freezing again this morning, but reached 60*...

8 eggs! Blu, Isis, Wilma, Betty, Violet OR Rose (1 RIR egg) and 3 pretty blue-green pullet eggs. we will be eating all the pullet eggs for dinner tonight, I should take pictures... the yolks are so tiny.

My broody was sitting for a week before I gave her the eggs. So 4 weeks for her.

I seem to get broody ducks, and geese, still not a single chicken.. hoping my LO or the Australorps will be. I found another pullet egg today, so they are starting to lay!

so hoping to have a few hatch. If I don't get 50% this time, I will just give up on shipped eggs.
I have read Sally Sunshines hatching 101 so many times I think I have it memorized!
