Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Dogs in bedroom again...WTH? Anyways I love all the Broody stories. I can't wait to see that for myself. I was shocked today when I went to check on the girls late tonight. Nine roosting two on the ground. What shocked me is who was where. One of my biggest girls was on the ground...I'm not sure if it was choice or if she's on the bottom. And two of the girls I constantly thought got picked on....premo spots on the roost. They always surprise me. White egg at the door today.

that is odd. Wonder what changed?

My oh my, the broody thing is contagious this spring. I've had 3 sorta-wannabe-broodies, but now the forth (buff Ameraucana) seems much more serious than the others, who gave up when I took their eggs away. This one is doing the pancake thing, growling, and making a creepy screechy noise right before she goes for the attack. She didn't try to bite me when I took her eggs and put her outside the coop for some food and water. She did, however go after the dog

(poor Scooter got out of her way fast) and she fluffed up huge (like a puffer-chicken) and with her mighty velociraptor screech easily faced down the dominant hen. Not roosting tonight, but sitting on an empty nest. Seems very serious.

She sounds very set to keep eggs, if you have the room, go for it! I have some chickens and guinea that acted very broody, but stopped pretty fast. My goose is broody until I bring the babies out, then she won't leave them babies

. my 3 Muscovy hens were, but 2 disappeared yesterday. The 3rd is glued to the drake. I am really concerned they went to the park across the road, my drake is pretty demanding, and these 2 are always disappearing. Donald (hen) and Stanley (drake) are cooped permanently till I figure out why the girls are gone.

Lily is fine, teething. Thank you :D
A year ago if someone would have said I'd be wondering outside before the house is up to give chickens fresh water in My pjs...I would have laughed my butt off....now I am out there with my fresh out of bed hair talking to my girls and collecting eggs...three so far. Will post pictures later today. Have a great day all. Nice day expected here in NY

Don't tell the hubs I said that.) Out of room in the big girl coop, but bantams, especially Seramas, would be fun. Not gonna try it though because this year we're taking a real family vacation and will be gone at the end of June. Maybe when we get back....

Maybe your broody goose would brood the little ones for you and free up space in the house for... oh, I don't know... more chicks!

Can your Muscovys fly? I've heard that folks have to clip wings for some of the waterfowl or use covered runs. Mel, my mallard boy, could fly really well, but he never would leave non-flying Phoebe, his Khaki Campbell girl.

Jammies are so comfy though!! Besides, you might need a nap after dealing with restless dog and fussy baby. If one of our dogs started acting odd, my mom always said we were going to have an earthquake. Lucky for us it didn't happen that way or CA would have dropped off into the Pacific long ago. (We had a lot of dogs.)

Yay pics!

Going to be hot here again, and it's smokey too.

Fire season started early this year and high winds aren't helping. 3 fires to our north and it's taking a while to put them out because the fire crews are not fully staffed and geared up so early.

OK, the girls look great, and it's nice to see Roger all humble-like and nesting... Peach is flat as a pancake herself covering 5 large fowl eggs... but she's determined! she did get up this morning when I brought feed out, but she was back on the eggs by the time I finished feeding the boys.

today was spectacular! gorgeous sunshine and light breeze, mid 70's. I invited my friend Ruth up for the afternoon. she loves the chickens, and we spent virtually the entire day outside on the swing with the awning, so it was shady for us. I made sandwiches and she wanted to picnic with the birds... I told her they would beg and try to steal... but she said she didn't mind. well, it was a lot of fun, and the girls were absolute pigs about it. Blu had mayonnaise beak, and I lost half my bread to Rose on one jump! but we laughed and laughed...(no pictures!

I'm such a knucklehead) and we tried to get them to eat a dill pickle. a couple of them actually liked it and ate it down to the skin over time (with lots of head shaking, lol) the gang did me proud, were very gentle and tame once the sandwiches were gone, more than a few let Ruth pet them. Ruth is 85 btw... I think I mentioned that before, when Mylee was here and we had the birthday party... same lady... we had a blast! we had collected 8 eggs in the early afternoon, and she was treated to a rousing chorus of the egg song when Isis laid ~ the boys were singing along and the girls all flocked back to the dome to celebrate, so I have 9 for the day and maybe more. I will go back out at 7:30 for the final check... last easy day for the next 2 weeks so I'm so glad I maximized the enjoyment!
