Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Lindz sorry to hear about your flock

. That sounds like a nightmare kind of day. I hope whatever got them is gone, but I am sure your going to be extra alert tomorrow. This reminds me of another forum thread OK had that had me following him when I first got on BYC about predators. It also makes me think of ACW.

I hope everyone else had a better day. How is the egg hatching experiment going?

W4W how is the eye? I thought I noticed a pink comb today rather then a bright red...I scrubbed everything down and segregated her.. Everyone else is looking good.

We have work on the shed coop today (woohoo). I have my sister coming into town tomorrow with my 7 year old niece. She is so psyched about meeting chickens.

My dog Maggie is acting up again...remember a few months back when I had to let her sleep in my bedroom? Basically the same behavior....but now my hubby is home and he doesn't budge on her having to sleep in her crate. Which means she is back to her 'alerting' bark or sitting outside until all hours of the night.
I know, Sally, it's hard not to get paranoid sometimes. Penelope's eye is about the same. Not worse is good in my book, and I wanted to wait to see if the Denagard was having any effect, but thinking now it may be a minor infection. Trying to locate boric acid eyewash (for people) which is mildly antiseptic but the local drugstore doesn't carry it any more because headquarters has listed it as questionably dangerous.

So I'll have to make the trip over to Walmart (we don't have one in our town) to see what they have. It will be cheaper there anyway. The feed store wanted $25 for a small bottle of Vetercin opthalmic solution, which is about the same thing.

Was the pale comb on an older laying bird? I know mine will get pale when they lay, or are scared, or cold, but better to be safe than sorry on your part. Still could be showing a sickness or mites. I hate mites.

Makes me all itchy just thinking about them, and now I am checking everyone a lot more regularly and spraying coop with Poultry Protector.

RK Broody is going to redeem the BR breed. But I'm sure She will find a way to live it down. You'd better start preparing for an all out assault!

Quote: She is already causing problems. I gave them watermelon yesterday and she looked like a woodpecker eating it. Just anything to get attention. Eats like a woodpecker and screams like a peacock all day. She will probably go broody this weekend because she knows that after Saturday those eggs only have a week left before they hatch. Nothing is going to steal her attention.

what a gorgeous day on the hilltop...! virtually cloudless, breezy... downtown is miserable, hot, no wind... so glad to get home early! I had let the big boys out this morning, and for the first time, Royce was already back inside when I came out to round them up. Carl went in next, with no messin' around either... Archie and Si are really easy. Archie watches me pick Si up, then he takes the lead and walks us home.

the rest of the day was in shifts, Peach and the chicks got to stay out longest. I let them out with the OEGB and Dutch right after putting the big boys up. they had about an hour of peaceful foraging and dust bathing. lil OEGB is a good boy, he is just very dominant and a danger to the other bantam bjoys. or more specifically Max, the feather footed one who took a beating already. he didn't act up at all, or stalk the dome. so after an hour, the boys went back up and the rest of the gang came out. probably for close to 4.5 hours. We spent all day outside, I finished cleaning the back garage. it looks so amazing... even with the John Deere parked inside, there's room for, oh say... a dozen more chickens...

after the flock was back in, I let the 2 new boys out again, Mylee fed them blueberries...

I put a pile of good junk by the road - good stuff... an old Singer sewing machine - it's from the 70's, not "old" old, but I don't use it, ever... a big plastic ball called a Moon Light, it's cool, lots of different soft lights, an electric barbecue, some camping stuff... a bug zapper and big garden sprayer - it's all gone! poof! one man's trash...

Mylee is in the bath - singing. we had a good day and got 12 Eggs.

I like it... I just picked up this:

it's the "desert sand" finish, should look nice. the kitchen is finished except for the counters... and those are kind of funny... I have one nice white corian counter, where the sink is. the rest of the counters (3) are either royal blue or bright jailhouse orange. back in 2005, we had family coming from Europe and I hated those counters. so I went to the hardware store and bought wood grain shelf paper and stuck it on. believe it or not, it looked quite nice, and it took a beating and lasted for years. it's still on there, looks ratty, but better than what's hidden underneath! so this will be nice. I don't know if I will redo the white counter. the plan is the 3 others, and a fourth is butcher block - which I love...

the dining room is almost finished! the floor is finished, all that's left is to paint 2 closet doors and 1 ceiling fan - once I get the furniture back in place, I will take some pics
