Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm dyin' over here... between Roger's exploits and lindz's advanced Chicken Calculus...

OK, I see pullets, in the 3rd shot, the one in the back might be questionable, but I would think by that age... they would have bigger pinker combs. going back to my 6-8 week old BR's, they look pretty girly

lindz - I think Clarabelle will be delighted to have more babies... she reminds me of Peach.

I was spending a quiet evening doing jigsaw puzzles on facebook... and my phone rang... it was old BH. ugh. the conversation started pleasantly enough, but quickly turned to a rehash of our rocky relationship. I got a good reminder of why I didn't want to do this anymore.

Hubby went with me and on the way back we were talking about giving the new babies to Clarabelle. He asked me what I was going to do if she wouldn't take them and my response was " I guess I will put her back out with the general population" LOL.... He looked at me funny and then replied, "Oh so we have jail-birds now?"

What do you see? Pullets or Roos
Pretty sure all 4 are pullets based on their dark coloring. Comb size will vary a bit for individuals, but no signs of pink on any. The Delaware is obvious. Don't see any BR wattles either. Kind of hard to believe you got so lucky, isn't it?

My RIR Roo.

My, what a manly comb he has!

The coop flooding was pretty bad! Good thing it drained out so well. Tell Roger to try FEMA. Maybe she can get some interest free scratch.

ugh. Doesn't sound like he's changed a bit. Don't settle.

Quote: I think I have ten pullets and one Delaware roo. The hatch rate was unbelievable but 10 out of 11 being pullets is awesome if that's the case. . FEMA and the Red Cross have already been here. She didn't get anything from either of them. I guess she will sue my homeowners insurance next

I didn't know there aren't fireflies out west... wonder why? I will miss them too if that's the case... frankly, I thought they would have them in England too...

Quote: Well, so of course I had to look it up. There are something like 40 species of beetles in the firefly family, and apparently some of them do live in California, but they either glow very dimly or don't glow at all.

Not the best summer evening climate out here, cool and dry rather than the warm humid nights they like. Apparently not very common to see a bright lightening bug west of Kansas. CL, if you have that many in your backyard, you may find me on your doorstep some summer eve, family in tow, so the boys can have the firefly experience. Poor hubby has never seen them either. Sad, isn't it? We do have Redwoods, though.

Oh, so 5 BR pullets. Amazing hatch results- one for the record books. Do you have contact with the breeder? Wonder if s/he had a heavy pullet year, or if you just won the jackpot.

You know you still have time to brainwash them into believing they are Dominiques and not BRs. Then maybe they will act like ladies rather than hooligans.
