LOL... sorry cheeka! I've been envious of your guys' #'s all summer! Now it is my turn!!!!!..
5 Eggs today, and 2 dozen sold. I have 10 left, that's all I got for the whole week. 34 eggs from 22 known layers in 7 days. I envy your #'s lindz.
Thanks! We bagged up 30 feed sacks full today, and there are probably that many more up there that we may go bag up tomorrow! And that is just my mom's yard. We can go into the edge of the woods if we wanted, or 1/8 mile down the road to my grandmas and get more too! Just not sure how many I will need for the winter.... I don't want to have to buy shavings if I can help it!Wonderful Pictures lindz! what a fabulous day!
being autumn... and with dogs... you know the poops are out there, you just don't know where... so I rake the leaves from the front lawn into the ditch. the leaves from the back lawn are scarce, but pine needles are in abundance, and I use them in the coops and runs. I get leaves from the roadside... I take peoples bagged leaves, and I go to the dump and take them by the truckload!
Glad to hear its made it safely! Congrats it will be all done before you know itI never want to go through that stress again! Thankfully the guy who made the coop only lived 14 miles away. But we still had to stop 4 times to shift it. Even with straps it somehow kept shifting to one side. I was sure it was going to end up in a pile along the road!
And then came the joy of getting it off the trailer. The builder had a fork lift, my husband had wood, screws and a chain. He was able to get it off with only a slight nick.
The next week will see going over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure there are no holes anywhere. Hardware cloth was delivered yesterday! Gotta love amazon prime!
Pictures will come tomorrow! I've loved seeing all your set ups! It's given me some great ideas (my step up brooder is a dog cage after I saw you use one cheeka).
I love using leaves - I have 16 bags in the front of the house, lined up along the base of the foundation. the house is well built and well insulated, but it's almost 60 years old... it helps keep it warmer as it faces west and the winds come from the west and batter the front of the house. I go through at least that many more bags over the whole winter in the dome and broody pen. now I have the bachelor pens to fill and that is as big as both the dome and b.p.! I used to feel like a stinker, taking bagged leaves from the roadside after people did all that work (for me...) but I find that most people are more than happy to have me load them up!
