Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm hoping that everyone made it through the night with the wind storms and crazy tornado's! JC, OK... anyone else in the path, y'all still good? it was seriously windy here, but no damage to the pens/coops, or the wrapping. just my mailbox blew over.

In totally jealously over the new additions to the family!

Jchny - How many acres will the cows be on? I'm debating getting some but I don't have a lot of land. I'm thinking about doing minature highland cattle. Minature jersey might be an option too.

Sully - Is that a Nigerian Dwarf goat?

When they are old enough to breed, I may try my hand at milking and maybe making cheese or soap, or something. I will see what kind of time I have. I went out a bought a kids playset for the little buggers. I can't wait to see what they do with that! They are Nigerian dwarfs. I haven't met them in person yet, but they look pretty tiny. My minis will have a blast playing with them. I hope.

Coops seem much calmer with just the small reduction of stock. I am going to process (not me), all but 3 cockerals this weekend and that should have everything perfect. I will have a roo for each group of girls. Then I can plot out who can breed with who and see what I can create. I feel like Dr. Frankenstein!

Cheeka-seems like you gave yourself a much needed break. We all need that now and again to recharge our batteries and refocus! Good for you.

well I went to feed store to get corn and layen pellets, Gerry has a bad leg and can not walk around to much so he told me what to get, ha I have a rabbit that loves oatmeal and horse feed, gave it to the chickens as the rabbit was right at the side of yard they shared the fence and it was the oatmeal we feed our kids, I saw a bag of oatmeal and got it, did not read it, will I got a mashed oats, also have a horse feed that the rabbit loves, chickens found it under the cage and would brake their necks to reach it so I started given to them, today I mixed horse feed, oatmash and the pellets together, oh my god the chickens love it, all of them are around the feeder eating the laying pellets and mash mixed together.

DH left last night after almost a week home. I think I will keep the chickens and the loneliness! He was home for a few hours, and I wanted him gone!

No way can I handle going back on the road with him! I was close to killing him yesterday morning.

So! Bring on the more chickens!! Woo hoo! maybe a horse or twelve .... Ha ha! J/K. I only have an acre and a half.
My mailman only delivers my mail like 3 days a week now. The post office doesn't care. The other employees are just as bad. When did it become okay to deliver mail in street clothes? My guy never leaves his (piece of junk!) car, but I saw one walking the residential area with jeans and a T-shirt. I don't get it.
Anyway! Hope everyone is well! Everyone still getting at least a few eggs daily? My 30 layers are down to 8/day.

I'm starting to think that I would be wise to process all the LF roosters except for 1. my heart tells me no no no... keep them all, but it's not the right decision. I think I will keep Royce for the blue egg gene.

speaking of blue! I got a pic of the earlobe! it's a terrible pic of the silkie, but the earlobe is so cool... I took a mess of pics and only took time to look quickly and saved the first bright blue earlobe pic I saw. I'll get to the rest tonight and post prettier pics... but check this out!

I like this pic of the Marans. something about the light and shadow is pleasant.

it was so lovely this afternoon, bright blue sky - light breeze...I was prepared to chase the Cochins around and little Marans Esther... but they are so smart! the blue Cochin Delilah came in with the rest of the flock, while the other 3 went in circles for a few minutes - Peach & Sillie came for seeds and went right in. I was able to trick Esther into going into this little space between the tree trunk, store bought coop and the dome - it looks like a way in, but isn't... so I scooped her up and put her inside via the nest box. I had to catch the other 3 Cochins - one by the apple coop, one in the old broody pen, and the last in the same spot as Esther. but they are learning! another week and they will know how to get back home. (Except if I cull all three LF roosters, I was thinking about moving them again into Si and Archie's space... they hang out in those woods all the time, and try to get into that pen when round up is first called... I think it will be easier for them over there...I would move Peach, Sillie, Esther and all 4 Cochins)

my 29 layers are down to 5 or 7 a day, one day it is 2 then next 7 then back to 5 now 2 again, I am not sure what we would do if they do lay 29 eggs. lol a lot of fried potatoes, bacon and eggs egg salad or what ever, and my daughter should come more often to take home eggs to doc and her family.lol
