Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Sounds like you've all done what I'm planning to do. I have 3 roo's who are tooo agressive with the hens. Sooo the stew pots calling. I'm not looking forward to it but. I don't want to feed them and with them about I can't let the hens free because I'll end up with hens with bloody heads.

I had such a stressful start to my night's sleep! it had started to sprinkle something between sleet and snow before I went to bed, and I was very very tired. right away, I was dreaming that Mylee was here and was having a party in the backyard with a bunch of people I do not know in real life... and they were letting all the chickens out - in my dream it was nighttime... I kept running out to catch birds... now, I'm a great dreamer... I normally have control, and can wake up to stop a dream, or change a dream if it's unpleasant... (took years of practice, I used to have night terrors as a child, complete with hallucinations...) anyway, I could NOT get out of this dream. I would wake up, roll over, and fall right back in. it was so irritating. I finally got annoyed enough and forced myself to get up and walk around - and then it hit me! at last check, I had carried in fresh water to the dome and the fosters, I said to myself, the dome is not locked 3X's to make myself remember... because I had intended to toss in another kick toy of millet for them to find in the morning. I couldn't remember doing it. I threw on my mucks and went out in my jammies to check, sure enough... the door was closed tight, but not locked. at least it was only midnight, and I still had 6 hours left before the alarm.

we only got about an inch, and it's not that cold, freezing, but not bitter...

Three inches of snow here and ice under it. 19 degrees this morning. I had one of those "Did I lock the coop doors" episodes on Monday night when coyote's woke me from a sound sleep at 12:10 AM. Sounded like they were in the coop. Never been that close before. Sounded like 10 hurt dogs all yelping at once. Flipped on a outside light and that ended the party. They instantly shut up and I assume they high tailed it for fear of my shotgun. I had dropped the clip that I secure the lock with and remembered doing that so I knew the door was secure and I didn't have to go check. Everybody was fine and no sign of anything trying to get in. Probably Roger playing games with them and got them stirred up. Time to go push snow now.

It is warm and the sun is shining here today but we are expecting snow or ice tomorrow. I think it is supposed to be nearly a 20° difference between today and tomorrow. BRRR I don't mind as as it isn't a drastic change like this is supposed to be.

I have only gotten 3-5 eggs a day for the past several days. That's ok though because we have 7 dozen and a partial in the fridge.... I am trying to do deep litter in the coop but they keep scratching it into the nest boxes. I am trying to decide if I should just clean the coop out and put down fresh bedding... what do you all think?

It is cold and snowy here in the desert. Had to unthaw the water once already. I opened the run this morning and the girls flew out of there (literally) with quite the fuss and scramble. They definitely were anxious to get out and about free ranging. However, that plan was abandoned pretty quickly and they are hunkered back down in the coop, sulking because of the cold. Poor girlies think winter sucks.

My ex Delaware rooster that I rehomed. He has his own flock of hens now and his new owners think he is awesome. They named him "Hoss". Their other rooster lost his job. I don't know if he lost his life in the "process" but Hoss is king now

and this seems like yesterday. Roger with Little Roger when she decided to be a mommy for two weeks. Can you tell how excited she is about the new opportunity? Rewards were not great enough so she gave up little roger and returned to her evil self centered selfish way of life as a pie hog and troublemaker. OH.....and she laid a egg one time too.
