Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Love the colorful egg basket, sounds very purdy

I have 2 serama hens, am amazed how tiny the eggs are. Same size as the quail! None have been fertile yet.
The 2 pullets Victoria and Kate have become quite chatty and very friendly ladies.
Harry the roo is a doll too, have realized he is also a serama.. My OEGB red pyle hen, Diana and GL sebright hen Fergie squat for him in a flash!
Kate and Victoria run from him unless food is involved. He can't seem to catch the serama girls or even interest them.
I have a few hatched from Fergie and Diana. Sebright and OEGB sure lay a nice sized medium egg,
I am really looking towards bantams for my egg flock.
Wow. You have Royal Seramas. A very rare and special breed.

The Serama roosters, in my limited experience, are so nice and gentlemanly that the hens can evade them quite easily. If you want to give Harry a better chance, you could confine them to a smallish area. My guys are very friendly and it's a main trait of the breed that I hope is kept as they develop the SOP. Couple of the girls will even fly up onto your arm to be pet. This morning one of the pullets is acting broody- the first one! She didn't want to go out with the others, so is alone in the garage nest box with her 3 little eggs. I have put off buying an incubator hoping that at least one of the 5 girls would get the urge. Time will tell how serious Fanny is about setting. Maybe we will have chicks this spring too! Or maybe this winter!

It's Pizza Night!

with millet sprinkles

The dome occupants couldn't even wait for me to get inside.

Henry really loves pizza... I got a few really cute pics of him.

The Fosters have had pizza before... it was their idea.

Can you believe your eyes? Pizza Snobs!

they also got their kick toys refilled with corn and millet... it was quite the festive afternoon!

the little pizza's were on sale at the dollar store, and I found a coupon, so I got 4 for a buck!
the Fosters old owner told me just how pampered they were when we spoke the other night... she mentioned pizza, so when I stopped today to pick up ketchup and cocoa, I strolled around looking for sale items to treat the flock to. I also got a bunch of boxes of raisins. our little market was destroyed in '11 after hurricane Irene and was never rebuilt. we got a new Dollar General instead. it's over 20 miles to the nearest market, so the DG carries a lot of food, more than the average DG store...

1 pretty, blue-green, jumbo egg today

My favorite is Tombstone, have ate them for years! I always add Xtra cheese tho.
Love the pizza idea will have to try it!

W4W The girls and Harry are really sweet since they are away from the LF birds now.
Think that's made a big difference for them.
They stayed in the grow out shed full time now, and have nest boxes and a roost just for them.
I have 2 sebright cockerels, one I may still put with Fergie, he is just as sweet as her.
If Diana likes him, she may be a new roomie too.

Happy Birthday to me!!!!!

It has been a very eventful day..... We had another wreck in our front yard, because the woman's tire blew and she went into the ditch. Today it was a mom and her 2 1/2 month old baby. Thank goodness no one was hurt. It was a bit sketchy, and it took me 30+minutes to get her to let me call EMT's. The baby's carseat wasn't strapped in the car correctly and it hit the door, plus the shoulder straps were not tight at all, and were actually almost unhooked. It was CRAZY!!!! I took the baby into my house in the carrier while she attempted to change the tire... I wasn't about to offer to help and leave my little ones in the house alone, but I did offer to take the baby in out of the cold and watch him. While she was outside I took a picture of the carseat straps. Improperly used carseats are one of my biggest pet peeves! When the EMT's got here, they even told her that she was lucky he hadn't been thrown from the seat. They told her about car seat checks and how she could probably get a free or reduced price carseat. I just hope that she takes mine and their advice... Her mom showed up and was telling me that the baby had, had a head injury 3 weeks ago from falling out of a bouncy seat that resulted in a skull fracture!!!!! I am really glad that I was able to talk her into letting me call 911, and at least getting him checked out.

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!
Wow, that would be terribly unsettling. Glad they were ok. Good for you looking out for the baby!
Back in 1982, I brought my oldest daughter home in a carseat. Most people didn't even own one. I always, ALWAYS wear one.
I was thrown out of a car at 5 years old, the passenger door wasn't latched, dad swerved to escape an oncoming truck.
My dad was hysterical and so afraid I was hurt, he was hugging me so hard I started crying cause it hurt!
From that day on, he made us all wear the belts, even Mom.

happy birthday!

Wow - hope nobody was hurt. I think of the thousand stupid things I do every day, and it makes me glad I never had children. Babies are so vulnerable. Well, and kids scare me.

Where is Roger lately? Has she finally settled down? Is there hope for my Barred One, then? Or, perhaps poor Roger is too despondent from all the snow to condescend to update us. My Barred One is so red, now. Maybe I will get my Christmas eggs, after all! The eggs (which I had to BUY) in the incubator are doing whatever it is very dark Marans eggs do until hatching. It's not like I can see a blasted thing through those shells.

Eggs, eggs, eggs - it's all I think about, lately.

Happy Birthday Lindz!

scary accident ~ really happy you were home to help! I've got the same pet peeve with car seats ~ Mylee's Grammy who lives here in the same town as me wouldn't use Mylee's seat often, and when she had to, she wouldn't hook it up at all. she got pulled over for something else, and the officer looked at Mylee and hooked her seat up properly - then gave Grammy a $100 ticket... which she tried to force me to pay! she said I never taught her how to hook it up......
there is a set of instructions on the side of the seat, in English and Spanish and with detailed pictures for those who speak/read neither. needless to say, I would not pay the ticket. Mylee has an older sister who was 4 when Mylee was born and Grammy has had sole custody of Sister since the children's mother died when Mylee was 3 weeks old. please... she wants me to believe that Sister never needed a seat from age 4???? anyway...
I really hope you had the greatest of all birthdays yet!

the mail was a record 3 hours late today. we all made it back to the outgoing truck by the skin of our teeth... actually, Ms So and So had to detour back to drop the outgoing mail off and then go back out to finish delivering. I got back just as the driver had his hand on his door handle... so I had to check for eggs in the dark, with the aid of my cell phone screen. I found 2, but also found EE Penny sleeping in the nest, so there may be an egg under her... it won't go below freezing overnight, so it's no biggie... but I wonder why she's sleeping in the nest, broody?

Thanks guys! It was basically just another day though...

No biggie....

It doesn't take but a few minutes to hook a car seat in correctly, and most hospitals, police depts, EMT/Rescue squads, will do a FREE carseat check for you... There is NO excuse for it to be used incorrectly! I drive my family crazy, because I am so strict about car seats..... It just isn't worth the risk in my opinion.

I only got 4 eggs today, and I ended up squishing one of them trying to put the yorkie in the bedroom and keep him off the baby right after the wreck. I had just laid MY baby down and run down to grab the eggs when it happened, so I had 2 eggs in my hand....
lau.gif
It was actually quite comical.... me running up the hill in my yoga pants, rubber coop boots, with 2 eggs in my hand... LOL
