Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Well my babies that i brought the first week in july should start any day now. I'm so excited. If I have to eat another store brought egg I swear I'll just scream. You have to doctor them up so much just to get flavor.

for everyone!

Rhody's frostbite is starting to look better, no more black spots. still, doesn't look pretty... but he was slurping up the Ramen.

this one was practically inhaling the stuff!

she's 6 months 1 week old. what a face!

Pint Sized... but doing "housework" with the fresh straw with the Big Girls! she's right in there all the time, acting all big...
Love it! Glad you had a nice evening too.

Ugh I cringe if I have to buy let alone eat a store egg

I was able to fix it a little... save it to re-use if you want...

Hi everyone! What beautiful eggs you all have. We got 4 today and a couple of egglets too. I have 6 dozen in the 'frige, but I'm sure they will be gone by the end of this week- hubby gets home tomorrow and his coworkers will be wanting their "real egg" fix!

Lindz, between renegade dogs and sick kids, you must be ready for a break or a long soak in the tub or something (chocolate therapy is my favorite!). As my mom used to say, "Never a dull moment!" I'm glad you called the animal control. She will see how reasonable you are being and will help. You should also play up the fact that you have very young children who play outside, and that one dog growled at you, which is very concerning.

MC, sorry about Cadbury and the other girl that died. Special needs chickens are so fragile and you've taken such good care of her for so long. You should deal with the chickens if you think it's best. Stick to your guns, girl!

Hope the super cold weather is over those of you in the east. Poor frostbitten chickens. We had about a tenth of an inch if rain on Sat, just enough to knock some dust out of the trees. No more in sight for the foreseeable future. There are red flag warnings for fire danger overnight tonight... in January!

Wow be careful! Hoping you see some rain and soon!
We had 3 chicken eggs, 1 pekin, and 3 quail eggs wow, 7, record for the year!
Its much milder here now, and a lot of the snow is melting. My geese are starting to pair off.
Looking forward to those HUGE eggs!

Oh better, Mabel says thank you! That's more her true color, also.
I really do need pictures of Mabel, tho. That's her only one, from quarantine, August 2012!
Her comb isn't near as pretty now, Red has sure chose her as his favorite.
Rebel liked her a lot too, Mabel is #1 reason why Rebel went to freezer camp

She had some frostbite last year, But otherwise has looked real healthy this year.
She has been a pretty special girl, really love her. Quietly chatty, sweet and lays very well.
I plan to add more BR this year hopefully.

Thanks for the sympathy. Remember the days when a woman was just a "thing"? Well, my husband has a similar way of thinking. He wants me to stay in the house when he is home. I rarely see my flock when he is here. That is just the way things are.
A television commercial made me remember that about a year ago, people were talking about an app. I don't remember if it was for hatching, keeping track of the flock (egg count, food consumption...) or both? Anyone here remember what app(s) I am talking about? Now that I have an iPhone, I can download it.

Cheeka - What kind is the bird that is sleeping to the left (if you're looking at the computer screen) of the silkie? She's got beautiful colors.

I just love all these captions. It's like I can almost hear the birds having the conversation.

I just ordered more chickies to come Feb 3rd. I finally convinced my friend to get chickens (she's been hemming and hawing for the past few months).
I'm going with Black Copper Marans (because I think the 2 I have are boys), Blue Cochin (need fuzzy feet), Golden Comets (maybe I'll actually get some girls) and Olive Eggers (why not)

My husband has told me too get more but I'm going to have to either get rid of some (shouldn't be a problem as I know I have at least a couple of boys I think) or come up with a bigger coop idea. My permanent run will be big enough to hold 20-24 so that should be no problem. I think I'll probably turn my temporary run into a coop until I figure it out. What's nice is by the time they're big enough to go outside it'll be spring so I won't have to worry about the temp as much as I will the wind/rain. And a couple of tarps/plastic should take care of that.

W4W - I'm doing a rain dance for you! Is it working?
