Quote: Ugh on the BCM...Mine are not laying yet either. They were hatched late july. I just keep hoping![]()
Quote: Post a pic of gus, maybe we can help guess. (If you did already I can go find it)![]()
OHMYGOSH! What breeds do you have? I may need to rethink thisTotal egg number for January is 259 eggs out of 10-14 girls
Quote: I hope there is one W4W. My arms ache a lot, and I know I take way too much advil. The few bones I broke as a kid are really making me remember I was soo stupid on my dirtbike![]()
ROFLMBO I betcha that would be a mountain wedding in a flash! I better not joke too much, my Mom is from MD. Have a whole lot a family on the east coast!
I think its great she still offers food. Hope she isn't wanting him back.Wow lindz! that's a lotta eggs! congratulations! I could tally my counts, but I'd cry. I'm sure... too many birds and not enough eggs... but I love them so.
W4W, you're funny! there are so so many eligible nub tooth's... too many... the local judge and I ran into one another the other day at one of the vjillage's little cafe's, so I sat with him while he ate his lunch - he said he wanted to set up a sign saying [BEER ~~~>] at the front of a corner building, let them line up, and come around to the back... give them a few beers, get em buzzed, make them drop their pants, pick up 2 bricks...and whackadoo! no more nub-springs!
he's got a point... these people are barely intelligible when they speak and then have children who grow up to speak like their parents... I should go back to school and become a Speech Therapist. I would have work forever.![]()
I was dishing out treats and a couple of the girls sneaked out of the dome, so I let them all out for a little while, might as well, it's going to be a blizzard out there for the next several days. we have a few storms coming back to back - we dodged yesterdays that made a mess of downstate and further south, but we'll get a foot with tonight-tomorrows storm, and then we have another coming on Saturday-Sunday. I'm not happy one bit. but I'm ready. tractor is perfect and I have plenty of gas, big truck is ready to roll tomorrow for the route, no fighting with the car...not in this weather, even though it has studded tires, it's not 4 wheel drive... I'm stocked up with coffee, cocoa, milk, cereal, veggies and salad... all the pets have fresh stock of food - the Mother of the lady who I got Chester from had a 20lb bag of dog food in hand this morning - the Post Master was in the back seat... almost got the bag dropped in her lap...! it was pretty funny actually... but then I had to tell her the whole story of how Chester came to be mine and this lady is so grateful (or perhaps it's guilt) that she buys food sometimes, either way, she saves me a couple of bucks from time to time and it was perfect - I was going to buy a bag today anyway... the Route Inspection went well, I had lots of mail and quite a few big parcels, so she got to observe my routine, my customers are mostly very friendly and chatty with me... I've always got a minute to catch up with someone...just a part of good service as far as I'm concerned...
gotta get back outside, Coral was sitting when I finally rounded up the last free ranger... I have 7 Eggs already, 1 from the Fosters - and my Post Master bought a dozen eggs today, wants another next week... she was always a good egg customer, but they've sent her off to cover another office for several months, only coming to Gilboa for partial days to do specific paperwork, or like now, for my inspection. she'll be around for mail count which starts on my Dad's 82 birthday. 2/22 ~ so for the two weeks following, send out lots of mail! every single piece counts! business reply stuff, magazine blow in cards... just mail em!
I agree with you, part of customer relations is letting people know they count, and you respect them.
We are getting one of the storms now. DH worked on the plow and dually all day changing fluids and checking his yellow lights.
He has been asked to plow for Indy! Some one knew someone else and it filtered down to us.
The residential areas are still buried from the last time. our plow truck is old, a late 90s model but its a beast. I will not drive the thing.
If they have no drafts, they should be fine. Some of my "wild bunch" roosted outside in the sub zero crap!Ha ha.... I got a whopping 34 eggs last month. It is better than zero. Yes?? Actually, when I looked, I realized that I had 3 girls laying in the first week of January. I did get a nice warm egg this morning before I left for work, but nothing since then. It is freaking cold out there. About 10 degrees right now and tonight we will dip below 0. The girls are under the toy hauler enjoying themselves. I gave them some warm noodles this morning and they scarfed it up!!
My DH, who told me that chickens did not need heat, suggested that I up the wattage a wee bit in the coop to keep the girls warm tonight.
Men.... go figure. Fingers are crossed that the girls will be ok.
Stay warm y'all..... cluck cluck....![]()

Those birds amaze me. They rarely even come in to eat now.
Quote: I think you meant poo's dear. Eggs are the roundish brown things that Dad gets from all the other girls....
Well the post office had an epic fail last time (had chicks delivered in dec and the box was eerily quiet... You figure out the outcome of that).
BUT they came thru for me today. After giving up on getting them today once 5:00 rolled around, I was pleasantly surprised by the phone call I got from the post office/sorting place at 7:00. So I jumped in the car and happily picked up a LOUD chirping box.
What an answer to prayer esp since we're getting an ice storm tonight!!!!
Pics to follow!!! But here is a teaser!!!
OOOOOOh BABIES!!!!!!!!![]()

Ugh stay warm! we already have more to plow out here. DH said let him do it in the morning.so cute! looking forward to more pics! I've got to head to bed, with the storm, I need to get up really early and start plowing my way out!
ended the day with 8 Eggs
Well I think I split the order correctly with my friend. The only breeds in doubt were the White Maran and the BO because they were both yellow. But we should figure it out for sure pretty soon.
Olive egger?
White Maran and Golden Comet
Black Copper Maran or one of the olive eggers... They really look alike.
Chowing down already!!!![]()
X2!! I love our mail lady also, she cares very much about my eggsHappy nat'l thank a postal worker day cheeka! I'll say thank you for always caring about doing a fabulous job!!!!
Quote:no kidding! The pekin are awful about poopy eggs. I check them 2x a day, more if I can, rarely are they NOT pooped on.![]()
I still have the one lil cockerel that sleeps in the boxes too, getting very impatient with him.
