Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

What good little chickadees! I guess I better start coming up with some good egg recipes!

Yes, it always seems as if people are getting too much precipitation somewhere and are in a major drought somewhere else. It would be nice if we could even it out a bit. I love that we got a little snow today (and even a 2 hour delay

) but we are still in a profound drought. However, at work, I was admiring the water running down the walls in the hallway and finding buckets. Ironic.

Happy pre-Friday, everyone!

First it snowed then it melted and it rained and then it snowed again and got cloudy and the sun came out and it started raining and it turned into ice and the trees fell and the power went off and it started snowing again and it froze and it warmed up a little then got cloudy and started snowing again then it got colder before it rained and we don't know yet what the weather is supposed to be like tomorrow

I will do my best to not whine.
I have not lost power. Some Pennsylvanians have. I did have to shovel about a foot of ice and snow yesterday. That was hard work, but nothing compared to what I had to do today. I needed groceries and to go to the bank. My mil came with her jeep and got stuck right away. Dug/pushed her out, and we left. When we returned the fun began. I had to walk from the main road to the house, and get the cart (like the one Roger has the dog pull). I drug that back to the road, and loaded up the groceries. It sank really far down. I fell four times getting that darn cart to the house! Not that falling hurt. Pulling the cart about killed me!
My dh's uncle (who made it out of his own drive) came for eggs, and said he may not be able to get out. I can't figure out how my drive is worse than everyone else's, but that is how it seems to be.
My chickens are fine as long as I shovel the run a little. Fifteen eggs today!

C-M, years and years ago (1995-7) I had rented a place that had chickens (bc the owner hadn't built a new coop at his new house...) one of the girls was an enormous BO who was perpetually broody. back then, I didn't know anything about chickens, just fed them, watered them and collected the eggs... I didn't know what broody was, and thought this big fat hen was lazy. she'd steal eggs and sit all day. and she was mean. growled, pecked... typical broody behavior, but like I said... I was clueless... I used to knock her out of the nest (gently) with a badminton racket so she couldn't draw blood and I could get those eggs... nothing I did made any difference and since there was no roo there was no point in leaving the eggs... she was broody the entire time I lived there. I wish I had taken some time to learn about the creatures... they weren't "mine" so I didn't really want to become attached, and didn't figure that is was anything besides her personality. I've felt bad since learning what her issue was, should have gotten her a few fertile eggs... So, seeing as how you aren't ready to do hatching, you've probably got a long road with her... be diligent. you may not break her, but you can be sure that she eats properly and gets out every day... I wish you luck!

I tried to post last night... but it wouldn't let me. I got a text from the carrier I couldn't use yesterday due to a previous commitment. she's available today, so I get the day off! I'm stoked. mainly because I got most of my big chores done yesterday figuring I would have to suck it up and finish the work week...
today will be very cold, so I may not free range... but maybe... bundle up good and get some great pics and then take a nap??? yard is plowed, house is cleaned, all I have left is the drain

, one load of laundry and to vacuum the living room.

So glad you got a day off Cheeka. Hope you can stay warm and cozy and rest up. Maybe even pamper yourself a bit.

The weather prognosticators have upped the expected rain totals in our area to 3-6 inches by Sunday. Spending this morning getting things ready outside and preparing for power outages. So many stressed trees with reduced root structures from the lack of rain will now get top heavy when the rain comes, and if there is any wind at all... At least it's not supposed to get very cold. All this rain is jet streaming up from Hawaii, so the Pineapple Express is on its way!

Happy chickens everyone!

I'm ready to grab a pillow and share that sun spot... it's almost 20* outside and no wind really... I'm gonna snooze til 1:00 and then let the flock out for a bit. it might hit the mid 20's by then, pleasant to be out in.

I used to live in the CA Bay Area and I am very familiar with water shortages AND power shortages. It sucks.... When they tell you not to flush unless its brown, no watering the lawn, real short showers. We have even flushed the toilets with bath water. We would have rolling brown outs during power shortages.

I am happy for you that it is raining now. But.... I hope that it does not cause flooding and mudslides.
Happy Chickens and Friday!!!!!
