Lindz-That is going to hurt later! I love the cat in all your chicken pictures! I have one that loves to be out with the chickens as well. If one approaches, she rolls over on her back, until they get too close! Then she is out of there!

Sorry for those of you who are getting another storm! My kids are in Massachusetts and they are done with the snow as well! I keep telling them to move down here! It is lovely this time of year! Summer, not so much.

Cheeka, love the flock block. Can you post your recipe?? I saw you used chicken fat and various seed, was that all or is there more to it? I see your chickens hate it

Flock Block is a whole roasted chicken's worth of drippings and fat, about 3-4 tablespoons of honey, and a few cups of various edibles... I used cracked corn, BOSS and white millet, you can use fruits, cereals, oats, grains... anything really. in the warmer months I bake it at 300* for about 2 hours. then it's a hardened block and it takes them sometimes 2-3 days to make it disappear.
I only packed it tight in the molds and refrigerated it. they held shape well, except the dumped one... I could make them work more for it, but really... it's Winter and that's hard enough by itself. only the dome finished theirs by this morning. the Fosters and the Group of Seven still had some. I haven't been outside this afternoon to check on them yet, I have been wearing blinders as far as the housework... and I can't ignore it anymore. as much as I love cats, I think that I won't be getting anymore. Hershey is only 8, so he'll be around maybe another 10 years... the cats trash the house worse than anything or anybody else. Min Min is 18, and has a booger problem. I've never seen anything like it! we've tried various treatments, vet thinks it's allergies but benedryl... doesn't work. She blows snot everywhere. Ollie is 12 and a long hair, so he drops clumps from room to room, but that's easy, Hershey gets my drawers open and drags my socks out and strews them on the floor daily. today he even opened the bathroom drawer and pulled all the scrunchy wash puff things out. so I spend the majority of my day putting that stuff away, picking up clumps of hair and scrubbing the walls and counters free of Min Min Mucus. I'm beat after that and don't want to bother doing anything else. besides, I watch Min Min like a hawk when I'm home, try to prevent further destruction!

this is a highly detailed recipe that I've not followed to the letter, but it was how I started...

The Chicken Chick’s Flock Block Substitute Recipe
Yield: two, 8"x8" blocks
2 cups starter/grower, grower/finisher, flock raiser or layer crumbles
2 cups scratch1 cupOmega Fields Omega Ultra Egg
3 eggs, beaten well & shells, finely crushed
4cups oatmeal
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup cracked corn
3/4 cup wheat germ
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cupCalendula petals
2 finely diced apples
1 cup applesauce
2 cups molasses
3 cups water
1/2 cup melted coconut oil (or any oil)
Preheat oven to 300°F.
Grease 2, 8"x8" pans well.
Mix all dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl,
mix all wet ingredientstogether.
Add wet to dry ingredients,
mix well.
Pour mixture into prepared pans and press down firmly,
packing very well.
Create a small hole in the top for hanging if desired.
Bake for 2 hours.
The entire house will soon smell divine!
Leave blocks in the oven and turn the oven off.
Allow to cool inside the ovenseveral hours.
Remove when pans are cool.
If yours breaks or fails to hold together, don't worry,
the chickens will enjoy it just as much in a dish as they would have if it were hanging!​

Agh cheeka I have a cat that has boogers too!!!! And my other cat has been sneezing slot which is gross too! My 3rd cat is a sock and atop thief!!! But I'll def get more. I'm a cat person!

Gotta try the block. I've been giving them my left over bacon grease with other goodies mixed in.

yeah, I say that I won't get more, but I've always been a cat person. since I was very little and rescuing kittens... I'm just so beyond ready for Spring. the cats go out during the day and the litter room stays clean. Min Min's been blowing snot for about 2 years, but she got really bad this Winter, seems to have become infected as they turned yellow then green - antibiotics cleared the color, but not the sinuses... she's back to blowing sorta clear but it's just vile.

Even with the updated forecast, they are still saying eight inches for me. I like eight inches, but not of snow.

When I clicked on it... it was just Roger's picture. I don't think Chicken-man understood that when she is on the puter, she puts her picture so we know it is her.... I don't think he read back into the thread any to figure out "how it works". I think the rest of us were trying to explain, and then some couldn't open the link anyway and were getting even more confused....
