Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Did you know Huskies are escape artists? I am worried now. What am I getting myself into?
barnie.gif

But, how can I turn down a free puppy (or both) that is AKC, comes with all shots, a kennel, toys, etc.?
I wasn't told which is the boy/girl, but I think I see a penis on the black one. I also think I see one on the brown one in the last pic, but IDK.
So! How do i choose which puppy, and how do I say no to both when the woman is offering them because she has a new job, and no time for the puppies?

Huskies are my worst enemies with my chickens! The neighbor's have killed 15 for me.... Just be aware that they are very ACTIVE dogs with a MASSIVE prey drive!

Ofcourse, I can't hate the breed because of your neighbor's lack of responsibility. But your experience is what is making me wonder. Especially because it will be my own dog vs: my own flock.
Well, here is to not having an issue!

BTW, I know you saw the dogs ... two weeks ago? What has happened since? And, do you know if the dogs are both boys?

Oh MC. Puppies? You have caught the puppy fever!

I have never known a Huskie personally, so maybe some research would help to see if Lindz's experience is the norm for this breed and if it might be more trouble than it's worth to have them around chickens.

Puppies are so cute and hard to resist. So are freebies. But ask yourself, would I have paid money for them (if I had extra lying around)? Would I have chosen this breed if there had been other choices also offered up for free? The fact that they are free may not be the best reason to get them. Think carefully. Impulse puppies are dangerous. Do not be blinded by the cuteness! (But they are cute!)

Also, in the pictures, there are lots of fresh, crunchy dead leaves, which implies the pictures were taken several months ago, in the fall or early winter. If so, those cute babies are now huge, wild adolescents.

that's very cool mortie! I love it when someone learns something new! last Summer, when Mylee was here, we had a huge burst of frog activity, babies everywhere! I never noticed that before - crickets by the bajillions, yes, but never frogs... those chickens cleaned up the literal hundreds upon hundreds of tiny to medium frogs in about 3 days.

so I had taken one of the many very silly quizzes on Facebook... this one was about "what to give up for Lent?" a lot of my friends were told to give up coffee... so I was surprised when the result was "Nothing" give up nothing, but give more of yourself. so, I went to my elderly friend's yesterday, and I will pick her up on Sunday, take her to visit her Parrot, Bird, at the Wildlife Sanctuary, and bring her up here for the day, have a nice brunch, play with the dogs and if it's nice out, enjoy some free range with the flock. I will also donate 6 dozen or more eggs to the local food pantry. I'll have to come up with a few more ideas...I did stop and help release a draft horse from some barbed wire fencing that he broke through... and told the owner the fence was broken... I'll make an effort to do at least one helpful deed everyday for someone else.

Have a wonderful day everyone! we're going to enjoy some mild weather today, hopefully to hit the 40's! I'm not breaking out the t-shirts yet, we're going to see more snow starting on Monday with a big storm Wednesday... could see a good 6 inches of fresh snow.

Giving for Lent is a great idea. Thank you for sharing this. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday brunch. (I choose sausage! Such a treat!

I haven't collected yet.....
That's the best part of the day! Never gets old finding eggs in the nests.

We had a big surprise today. One of the new Cochin pullets laid her first egg. Don't know which one, they both are squatting. Or I suppose it could have been the Silkie. She's a year old and has not gone back to being broody despite the bald breast.

Wonder who it was...

I have not seen the dogs in a few weeks. There is a male and a female here and the female seems to be the alpha. The first time I talked to the neighbor about them killing chickens she admitted that mine were not the first ones. I really hope things go well for you.

I responded to the ad not knowing they were free. They are only three months old. I wondered about the leaves too. I figured it was either where the snow had melted in the last week or so, or ... Nope. That is all it can be. They were born November 24Th. And DH and I do like Huskies. My only issue is that I can't stand leaving one behind, but I really don't want two puppies (big ones anyway) to train. I also have Sturgis to contend with. Three dogs isn't terrible, but I find it too much of a pack.
So! I like the black one because I like the look, and because 2/3 pictures it is laying down. The brown one seems more playful. That right there is more a male husky trait, but I don't know if the pictures just happened to be taken while one was playing, and the other resting. I did ask which was which, but her English seems off. Maybe she was confused. Maybe busy, and just responding quickly.

I will be meeting her at her place, so I can meet the puppies.

Ah, so the freebie just adds to the temptation! Meeting the pups is a good idea so you can see the personalities. Can you take Sturgis to meet them too? Maybe he will prefer one over the other.
