Today I managed to shovel the large coop (12 X 6) out about 2/3 of the way. I use deep litter. With all the mud, you
know it was wet and heavy. I also got the feed bowls, buckets and waterers washed. Tomorrow won't be as cold as I thought (it says it will stay at 40* tonight, go to 44...) Okay, I am looking at the forecast again.
44 as a high, with winds at 15-25 MPH with gusts over 40 MPH, and one inch of rain!!! Then the low will be 8*, with an inch of snow and more strong winds. The high for Thursday will be 20*, and then, (LOL!!) it zooms back up to 53!
So, lots of ice (I am SO gonna fall getting to the coop!) tomorrow night, and then it will all melt again Thursday. I won't even tell you about the crazy stuff the following week.
I will be bringing my first poults home in the cold rain. Unfortunately, I have to travel about an hour and a half just to get them.
Cheeka, I know you are getting a lot of snow. I think the snow might be better. Might... Okay, maybe not. I will have ice for a day. You getting another snow storm will last a lot longer. Sorry.
Mortie, sit on your hands! When the chicks begin hatching, they will knock the other eggs around. That is okay. They will survive 3 days without food and water, so you can let them take their time hatching.
It can take 24 hours from pip to zip. Be sure they are not sitting on the turner (if you have one) and be sure there are no dishes of water for them to drown in. A sponge or cloth will keep the humidity up better than anything (except the reservoir, of course).
Lindz, glad you got a good sale, and I see your point about first chicks.
