Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

typical guy thing. He was trying to impress you. But got figured out......

ever since the day he came home forever, I'm impressed... for a Beaglie-Beaglie, he's smart. and I'm sure that until it got really dark, he was having a total blast. then the hard work of finding his way home. his diligence impresses me. and his darned sweetness has me wrapped around his freckled paw.

they both want attention at the same time... Ruby's up on the couch waiting for belly rubs and Chet's on the floor being too cute to resist...

Hope you are all doing well, miss talking and laughing with you!
We are getting 2-3 dozen eggs a day from various species, not including quail!
The quail are at about 15 a day. Everything is laying now even the guinea!
The peafowl wont lay til they are 2, so will be next year.
MC, my first poult hatched today, will post pics once it dries

I am buried in pekin ducklings, oh my, I quit setting their eggs. They ALL hatch! So will be posting them for sale locally. See how that works out.

Yeay on the egg!! I was surprised to see you don't want the hens to brood. Is that always, or just until you have a bunch of poults each season? I can't decide what I will do next year. I think I am going to take the eggs for the table for a while, then let the hen(s) brood if they want. I am not a good enough seller to let too many eggs hatch, but I do want a few for late summer/early fall frying.

Quote: I want to establish several poults early, then I will let the hen raise her babies. She is going to be an awesome mom, she is 2, so mature enough to do it. They will have a 28x8ft run, and an 8x10 coop. all enclosed. We plan to move them in this weekend.

How are you covering the run? I am planning on a 20 X 30 run. Well... 20 X 20, then the other ten feet from about September through October/early November. The garden fence is coming down. I will make the 20 X 30 run, then use whatever is laying around (chicken wire) to block off the garden. I can let the turkeys in to clean up in the fall, then block it off in time for the manure to break down in the garden. It also lets me have a bigger or smaller garden from year to year.
Anyway, I can't decide on the covering.

Congrats lindz! I love being off by a month if it's a month early rather than a month late!!!

I had to take my elder friend to the doctor this afternoon and then for some shopping, so I didn't get to free range the flock today... kinda bummed bc it's going to rain for the next few days and they won't get out much. but they were happy with noodle Pie and I collected 14 eggs.

one of my cats has decided to use the area behind the TV as a litter box. it took me a while to figure it out, but I sure could smell it! part of the carpet is saturated and there was a bunch of poop. it's inside the back of the cabinet.

I don't know how I'm going to clean that big pee spot. I think I may end up pulling the carpet. that's $700 worth of flooring I didn't expect to spend tho'...

ugh. not ok. kennel her/him. and start retraining.

So I read somewhere that crows are a deterrent to hawks. Well it's true DH saw two cross chase off a hawk this morning. Good birdies!!!!

The boys are outside. I keep worrying about them. It is getting warmer as the evening wears on (up to almost 70*). I need to relax. I am not sure they know that they can go back up the ramp or under the coop to escape the occasional stronger wind.
JC,, why is it they are not supposed to be outside before 8 weeks? Laggerdogger said you can push it to 6 in this warm weather, but why not before?

She asks after doing it.

ETA, I will be bringing them back in the house tonight. It is just that the next few days are going to be 70- 80*. It is crazy to keep them in the house!
I had to clean their brooder, and I spent about three hours cleaning up around the property today. I have to laugh every time I pass the sled still sitting on top of the grill by the back door!
