Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

My sister's husband has a cat named Peanut. My sister calls him Wretched. He has Diabetes, and needs insulin daily. During the summer, he has to go to the vet to be kenneled while my B-I-L is traveling for work. Now the cat has cancer. Last week the cat spent nine days at the vet while my sister went to Aruba (

). As soon as the cat got home, he would not eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. He was vomiting green. Back to the vet for several days of observation. It was a hairball. He got an enema, fluids for dehydration, and his blood sugar re-regulated. The cat will probably die at the vet's this summer. Everyone thought that he should have been put down when he got diabetes. Now we all think the man is insane. He doesn't want to say goodbye, and put the cat out of its misery. He wants to stick his fingers in his ears, and say, "la la la la la la la la!!"
Yes, I see the attraction. I also see that the cat has been mean for years (he will tear you apart!!) and is not worth the money!!!
Sorry. You guys are talking about sick cats, and I just spoke to my sister.

morite, it's a learning process. make good use of this for this year and expand on it or change it as time goes by. it will work, which is what matters, but I think you might be in the position to invest in hardware cloth. if you have raccoon, they can tear through chicken wire easily.

and a nondescript high five. I hear ya. my Mom keeps her Pugs until they are so out of it they have to sleep in the bathroom, where they poop everywhere and step in it, sleep on it... smear it everywhere. my poor Dad has to get up to go to the bathroom and finds the mess, has to clean it, relieve himself and go back to bed, but when he gets up again in the morning, it's the same scene all over again! he's so good to my Mom that he just cleans it up. most of their Pugs should have been put down 6 months to a year before she will let it happen. out of respect for Min, I should do it in the morning. I have had her for a very long time and she has had an amazing life since I plucked her out from under a city house, she had puncture holes in her ears - probably from huge city rats, she had blobs of grease in her fur from hanging out under cars... a right mess! I love my Mom and I admire many qualities of hers that I share. but I will not put Min through misery to oblige some inability to do the right thing.

they sure are cute! Mylee has been picking flowers in the gardens at her apartment complex. she's allowed... they are so sweet to her - she picked a gorgeous bouquet this morning.

this is the hat she has to wear when she refuses to comb her hair.

The BBW turkey poults spent the night outside last night. Then I had to bring them in this morning. I was just figuring out where to store the straw, when it began to rain several hours before it was supposed to. The poults are too young to get wet. They will become Gremlins!!

It does make me feel better about putting them out "for good" (barring anymore 20 something degree nights!) in a few days.
I think I even know how I am going to build the permanent coop! Every time I think i have it figured out, I forget what I was thinking, or I realize I can't get the supplies I need.
It is actually sunny now. It may or may not rain again, so the poults are staying in the house.

I still don't know if I have broodies. I have 4 GLW. I can't tell them apart, but I know one is almost always in the first box. I get growled at, and pecked if I reach in. She does not cover all the eggs in there, and I usually find broken eggs. I have to wonder if she is really eating them, or a scuffle over the box gets them broken? Especially since broken eggs are found when the bedding is low. Today there was a pile of eggs in the next box over. Maybe she is broody, and everyone used the other box when she wouldn't leave. I also have a hen in the far corner. She is often there too. Another clue is that I have gone from 18 being the low, to 13, and the high has only been 18 in the past week.

MC I would love to see pics of your turkeys. I can't believe how fast they grow.

We are done working on the run for the day and I can't believe we're not done. We still have to put up the chicken wire around the bottom of the coop but that's it. We bought a nice wooden screen door at the hardware store for only $20 and did some minor surgery on it to make it short enough to look decent and it looks great and was way easier than trying to build one. Still the surgery and the attaching of it took a couple of hours. Then we hung the last of the wire and rigged up the pop door to be opened and closed from outside the run. Inside the coop I just need to install the roost and board up the hole where the nest box is going. I can make that sometime in the next 10 weeks....and it will be ready. I didn't want to have to haul the brats back into the garage this evening but I'm going to have to. One. More. Night.

With Easter coming round and all, I was hoping for a Mylee update.

She has such a good smile, all the way up to her eyes!

CLindz, is Phylis really friendly or just easy to catch because she can't see?

I think chickens can make good therapy animals. They sure are a stress reliever for my high school boy. Soooo floofy!

MC, I'd love to see pics of the poults too. Quite a milestone having them sleep outside. I know Mortie is looking forward to that too! Funny you can't tell your GLW apart- that's why I got one of a bunch of different breeds! You can get colored zip ties to make leg bands for them if you want to keep track of who's who.

Ohhhh Mylee is sooo cute!!!

You can door Mortie! You're so close!!

Phylis is easy to catch because she's such a squatter! But once caught she doesn't struggle so I do think she is friendly. She'll run full speed across the yard and then follows you around. Only thing is she has no qualms about pecking anything interesting (polka dots on my rainboots, a freckle on your leg, etc...).

We had a Fowl for Foul Weather Party today.

I remember, last year, OK was talking about needing a raincoat to feed his bunch yogurt and watermelon... should be the same for noodles with this bunch! they go crazy! Tiger has noodles on her butt, Fannie has noodles on her head, and ...

Sillie Soo flung a noodle on my camera lens!

We're having too much rain to free range and the temps will be dropping into the 20's here too. cold days and freezing nights for the next 3 days. but that should be it. the last of the chill!

I want to set eggs so bad, but I really need it to be warmer... 22 Eggs today and 4 dozen ordered by one lady for tomorrow.

YIPPEE!!! The Littles are moved. Whew. They should be good for a couple of months. Rumples was very happy to stretch her wings. The littles are like little cottonballs blowing around the broody pen. Pics tomorrow. Tired....
