Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

see if this works. I may need to change it to public rather than friends...

I checked, the link works, and I made it public so everyone should be able to see it. I have a scratchy throat, and sound terrible... and the video is awfully jiggly... but still...

I had a pretty long day all around. after work, I had to take my elderly friend to the doctor and the market. she's doing great and has a cousin coming to visit for the weekend, so she wanted to stock up on goodies.
I got home a little late for free range, but I let them out anyway. it was really windy, so I didn't enjoy it much, until I got my earmuffs on. they were pretty good about going "home" when I was too tuckered to stay outside any longer. and I got 21 eggs with no sign of any broken ones. 7 from the Fosters, which is par for the course with them. that's 70% productivity. the dome is not doing as well. 14 from them is 50%. but it's okay. I'd rather they not burn out... my original flock is 2 years old tomorrow! and I have an order for 3 dozen eggs for delivery in the morning.

You are an amazing friend cheeka! I'm so glad that you take such good care of her!
You're a great chicken momma too! I'm sure they enjoyed what little free range they got! I've been getting on average 14 everyday.... I have a few that aren't laying regularly, and I still haven't gotten another egg from the Marans although I have seen her on the nest. I am wondering if she isn't an internal layer.....

thanks lindz! and don't fret too much over the BCM, you know that it takes quite a while to become regular and it's not uncommon for a period of about 2 weeks between eggs during their first months. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll work it out!

Cheeka, I am sorry about your day. You know it could have been worse... They could have sent three of those packages!!

I hurt so bad that my eyelashes ache! It took me wayyyyy too long to build the turkey pen today. I have no idea how I am going to make it through when it is time to take it apart to make the bigger pen. My mother-in-law stopped by, and asked why I wasn't making it bigger. It tortured me because I kept wanting to. I tried to stop changing my mind, and just get it done, but flipped the crate once anyway.

One of the chickens. He gets to sleep in my bed. I learned about straw today. Oh, so many things about straw!

They have head room!! And they have room to spread their wings!

The girls (and 2 boys) loved playing in the straw!

I got to see Thanksgiving and Dinner display this evening! They got scared when the dog sneezed.

omg MC, don't jinx me! there's always tomorrow!!! and I really like the new setup for Thanksgiving and Dinner! it might be easier to add on rather than dismantle and rebuild... but I know it will work for now!

I thought I would have to search this thread for Mylee, bc I couldn't remember what she called coyotes. but I talked to her earlier, and mentioned coyotes and sure enough! she said it!! hi-cote! really made me laugh!

Thats so cute!!!! I love the cute ways that little ones say things!!!!

One of mine called hot dogs "dot dogs" and that's stuck around here! And Abby says "panacakes" and calls Vienna sausages "Hyena sausages"... LOL I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that I can think of right now!

On another note.... Jayden asked me today why BB (head roo) chases off Kahoots (younger cockerel) when he tries to mate with the girls....

I broke down and got another chick. A BSL. Cute little bugger, buts she has to learn the ropes. Rumples took her in without missing a beat. She needs to learn broody talk. She needs a name. Rumples is walking funny. Its kind of a shuffle walk. I am a little concerned about it. Ivermevtin is on the to do list this weekend. I also put poultry electrolytes in their water to see if that helps her and the grafted chicks. The grafted ones are on the slow side. Do you all think that Vitamin D would help and in what from?? I also gave her some scrambled eggs and squeezed a vit D into it. Thanks for all the advice.
